I stated a while back my opinion of fantasy (I think I was rude) , being not my cup of tea, but as an expansion why not. Bringing in more players to experiance the historical side is terrific and equals more player which does mean more money for Slitherine which means the multiplayer mode has a greater chance of staying free for all of us. Heck I'd even buy the fantasy if it were an expansion.

It is obvious that it should be an expansion even in fantasy most unit are standard (ie knight, pike,...) So even if it was a different game it will still be the FOG engine+an expansion. I believe that it will be awfully complicated to support two game that are basically the same. Beside making it an expansion might convince MesaDon to play fantasy, that's great

and I am sure it will bring some fantasy player to historical wargaming (as I did before).

I hate to bring this post back to life but I have reformed from my anti-fantasy stance and I am big enough to admit I was wrong. Might be because I am selfish and decided I would love to play all the Edgar Rice Burroughs Mars and Venus characters. Just finished rereading those books and i want to be John Carter or Carson Napier.

Never read his Venus books but did enjoy JC. Even though its been a decade since I read them i can still picture the defeated air fleet admiral jumping off his flagship with all his battle colours ( in true tradition of the Red Martian Navy)

Now you guys are talking. I'm a BIG Edgar Rice Burroughs fan, especially his Mars books. I'm currently putting his series books on my Nook.

Now if they came out with a Warlord of Mars game I'd be on it like flies on you know what. Not sure it would work with FoG but it would be interesting.

BTW... there is a big budget "John Carter of Mars" movie now in the works slated for release in a couple of years. (Not to be confused with the recent and very dissapointing "Princess of Mars" movie staring Traci Lords as Dejah Thoris. Got nothing against Traci Lords but Dejah Thoris????? Gimme a break!) (Actually I do wish I had something "against" Traci Lords

And I thought I was the only one reading ERB on a Nook (Now on (again) Chessmen of Mars) Also have the collected works of ERB on my IPhone. Opps I think I am a bit off topic.

perhaps they should re-title this the fans of Edgar Rice Burroughs. I have read several of the John Carter books myself which are in my personal collection, neat stuff but not many really big battles as I recall. Not sure how the rifles would work as it seems no one ever shoots the silly things but runs about stabbing the baddies with swords.
so we might be seeing FOG Mars as a fantasy expansion then
