If it helps, SRW1962, & assuming the 1962 is your year of birth as it is mine, I must have also spent at least that on the hobby. Even my wife hasn't costed that much!

Well... I've spent at least £37 million on paintbrushes alone. That must be why I'm still living in shoe box in 't middle o 't road.

Lucky really that the wife kids and dog have all starved to death....

1962 was a good year

I agree that FoG PC is great value for money. If I work out the cost of the hours that I've had to date then it's really cheap - if I'd spent the same time down the pub I'd a) have spent a lot more money and b) have a liver complaint!

£50k, I still can't get over it! I really hope your missus doesn't read this!

Well, I currently own thousands of 10mm figures (mostly ancients), tens of thousands 15mm figures, all sorts of periods and tens of thousands of 28mm figures, again allsorts of periods. The price I quoted was unpainted price. god knnows what they are worth painted as they are really well painted. then there is the terrain and buildings etc. etc. so when I kick the bucket my kids have a nice bundle to sell off, if I don't sell them all myself and devote my wargaming time to playing the pc version instead.

I do have a couple (okay 3) large rooms to house the collection, but this is only because I was able to get rid of my wife some years ago (lead boots made from old minifigs) and refurbish my home as a shrine to wargaming.

And yes I was born in 1962

The perfect year!

Most of mine was spent on boardgames but lead too - and lets not forget the old plastic airfix romans v britons.

Since buying FoG PC I have finally found myself actually playing lots of games against lots of players - only taken 30 odd years!

So again I feel the value for money is there when compared to all the other games (PC or otherwise) I have spent money on.

Just to follow up on the prcing comments between currencies we've done a full review of all prices and found some of teh currency conversions had drifted so far from when the prices were set we had to adjust them to get them back in synch. The general trend you will see is that £ prices have gone up by 1 in some places and Euro prices have dropped by 1 in some places. Everything is based on $ as this is Digital Rivers native currency and how we get paid so they have not changed.

This will not effect any orders or pre-orders already placed, only future orders.

I'm sorry for the UK buyers :(
My complaints were not aimed at their price being increased, but at the euro price being reduced to what was charged a month ago.
Now the British have to pay 1 pound more and we Euro users still pay 2 euros more for SoA preorder than what we payed for RoR preorder... :?
It seems Slitherine is the only one who came out better than before...

Strange way to fix a problem, now euro and pound buyers are in the same ship to the abysm... dont understand the increase of price in the SoA add-on, no new features only new units (well is the minimun in an add-on) and an unclear promise of new scens... and better dont talk about the problems with previous add-on and game... work a little more in the game before increase prices

The exchange rates were way out of date. The prices have not changed but the currency conversions mean things have realigned. If you can do something about the value of the £ then it will swing back the other way :(

More prices have dropped than risen and the drops are larger than the rises so based on this we are worse off, but the point was to make it fair, not to gain something out of it.

This is a pointless discussion so I'm not going to say any more about it! :)

Thanks for clearing this up! :D

Returning to the game, I just had a (probably stupid  ) idea: what about adding specific figures to represent some of the most important historical characters? It could be a nice touch to have the Black Prince or Joan of Arc represented in a distinctive way on the battlefield (of course, for Immortal Fire you could have Alexander and Darius, and you could update FoG/RoR with figures for Caesar, Pompey, Vercingetorix...)

Well, i am a buyer and can comment about prices i think that, nobody force me to buy it but nobody can say to me that talk about prices is "bad" i see it as a buyer not as a "company man"

PD: when SoA arrives we can see finally all features working well??? for example LOS, improved AI and things like commander bonus??? thanks.

Are the exchange rates used in the prices posted on the Slitherine site controlled by Digital Rivers or Slitherine? Wouldn't it make sense to either keep them more up to date or else just to list the prices in the native currency ($) and let the buyer do the conversion? Ebay UK does all its transaction in pounds and I haven't found that an issue to deal with when buying figures there so I would expect that customers buying on line would be able to deal with whatever major native currency you are using. I remember being a little surprised when buying FoG PC that I had a choice of currency and at that point it struck me that the price in dollars was a bit lower than I expected for the price in pounds. If it is Slitherine that updates the exchange rates, seems like you should save yourself the trouble and sell the games in $.

Its pretty complex so we have to specify the price in each currency separately and it has to tie in with our physical store for military art, plaques, books etc.

One solution could be for anyone wishing to purchase in future that they pay via paypal. That way when they buy they can choose whether to pay in GBP USD or EU and if they think they get a better deal in one of the currencies because of exchange rates on the day they can save money albeit only a small amount.

I am still awaiting the day the pound will be once again worth 2 dollars and 1.5 euros so I can make some orders from the US and Italy for wargames figures.

Is it possible to pre-order the next expansion on the Matrix side? if no, why? If no, what will happen if I pre-order the game on the Slitherine side? Will it be comptatible with the one I bought from Matrix? Will I be able to register the game on my Matrix member page? I hate when it is makes a difference on who you buy a game from.

They are completely compatable but you wont be able to register it there, only here. Generally we do pre-orders only from our site.

If you order from us you cannot register on the Matrix site I'm afraid - you have to register on our site.
