Since Kremenchug provides a great opportunity to rack up a many tens of kills on the transports (possibly even a couple of hundred if you can block them from landing), it looks like even though I only started chasing kills in 42 and got an initiative hero there was a chance I could have got well over 800+ if I'd managed to block the Kremenchug transports from landing and bombed them to bits.
Recon units are very helpful here. They can shuttle about to plug the holes as needed. The only drawback is the more of them that you deploy, the fewer core slots you have to use for your main effort.

I am taking the SB challenge myself actually, starting from '39. My two new HE111's are up to 2 stars at Piatek. Not a lot of kills so far though.

You will play them both in each game ?

I couldn't help myself. 60 kills at the end of the Bzura river defence for my He111. Bombing cavalry and TKS 3 on a river usually gives 2 kills, so quite a good scenario.
I'm using only one to collect kills. Will add another for standard strat bomber duties later, as I usually run 2 or 3.

You will play them both in each game ?
I am trying to. Many of the '39 & '40 scenarios are comfortably winnable. So, even though using 2 SB's will slow me down a tad, I have to take advantage of every opportunity.

I have had good luck so far. I've received three SE infantry so far, selling two. On turn 14 of Kampinsoka Forest, my Flak 88 collected the Iron Cross 2nd Class and a +1 movement hero in the same die roll. On to Modlin.

Usually I play on general with prestige and exp at 80%, but currently playing to unwind and trying out new ideas (like seeing if getting 3rd strat bomber hero is realistic) and 'I wonder if this will work?' so using Colonel with AI2.

I just finished 39 with 220 kills. 82 of these came from Narvik's destroyers. I could have maybe got another 20 or 25 in Narvik if I hadn't got fed up with the British ships and finished a few off with battleships. Early on I worked out that I couldn't kill all of the ships with my Ju88, it would have taken more than 18 turns of fine weather - I had 2 turns of snow and about 3 or 4 cloudy, so maybe could have cleared all the destroyers with good luck and excellent planning. It looks like the realistic upper limit for 39 on dice chess would be between about 250 and 280, but maybe 300 with a bit of luck and some careful planning and scouting.
I never re-roll for heroes, but this time I will do so until I get a decent attack hero or +3Defence.

I usually finish 39 with 3 strat bombers (modlin) and they barely reach 40 kills.

I was expecting maybe 120 or 150 kills, so 220 was a surprise. Biggest successes were the Bzura defence (lots of units on river hexes for >30kills) and Narvik with lots of destroyers at 7 to 9 kills per attack in good weather.
Warsaw was a bust (>10) due to heavy entrenchments, as was Modlin and for the same rewasons.
Will see how I do in Belgium.

Yeah I love the enthusiasm with which this is getting pursued. PaTheTic gamer has a playthrough that he is doing attempting to get quite a number of kills with his PAK. He needs to be encouraged to bring it on every map. It has encouraged me to bring it on more maps in my Ultimate Playthrough. I want a beefed up Pak with 2 or 3 heroes by 45 Campaign

If i start 44, i have an old core save with a pak that has over 1000 kils, a +1M hero and +3A. Never been able to use a pak to get near that total since. I just know i Got inspired by deducters videos. But cant remember it.

Oh man that is one sweet combo. The 2 things that keep my usage of it is the lack of movement and the susceptibility to getting devastated by their artillery

Converting the AT to a Stug sounds a good move. A mobile Stug with +3A should be able to get into position to do a lot of damage often enough to be very useful. If after that third hero, the +3A will add roughly 1 1/2 kills per attack on most soft targets. I'd recommend using the extra speed to go truck hunting until he can be converted to an Elefant later on.

If you're specifically aiming to get a towed gun to 3 heroes, maybe a bit more aggressive positioning will work - drive the truck right behind the armour so you can reach the enemy more often. This takes a bit of practice and a tolerance for some damage, but on the positive side if you do have to reform, you keep the kills and the existing heroes! For less stress and fewer casualties, use him to clear bunkers in place of an engineer unit working with either a move hero towed gun (105 is better than 150 for higher rate of fire and more ammo - you are after suppression not the kills the AT gun will get) or a SP rocket launcher.

On my own hero quest, I've just finished Arras with 389 kills and have Calais (rivers) and Dunkirk (rivers, canals and ships) to come. I did reroll a few times to get an attack hero (2 move+1, four +1D, one +1A before I got+2A). I wouldn't normally re-roll heroes but I needed something useful for the experiment though I would have stuck with D2 or D3 to reduce overstrength loss.

Unless I can find a ship or something on a river, targetting towed guns (AT, AA or artillery) generally gives 2 kills each attack and 1 if cloudy. I did compromise in Arras and bombed a surrounded Matilda 1 to force a surrender, but generally have been sticking to 'best number of kills' rather than 'best target for the team'. It looks like I'll be close to 500 kills by the end of 40, which is a more than I expected.

Just finished 1940 with 595 kills for my strat bomber (375 in the campaign). Best 2 scenarios were Dunkirk with 92 and Hague with 40. Not surprisingly, these both had ships, though the stock target is towed AT or artillery, typically for 2 kills each - AA is just as good but needs to be suppressed first.
If I finish early, I leave off the final hex capture and keep a gun alive with one or two units next to it so I can keep bombing it for 2 kills per turn. That added an extra 10 in Reims alone.

I am doing the same. I just started reims and my main strat bomber just reached 300 kills and got a attack+2 hero. I have another strat bomber that has 150 kills +/-. A 3rd has 60. I am far far behind you. I used the same tactic but shared the ship targets with the other bombers.

I love this thread. It is very fun to follow everyones progress. Maybe we can pursue a 3rd hero on a recon unit next? :)
