Sorry, I don't know. I haven't played version 2.2 yet due to time reasons. I hope I will be able to play it soon.

I think McGuba wanted to make some changes on the frozen units, i.e. in version 2.0: if you are very quickly in the south, you can destroy many units before they get activated. This change, if it was done by McGuba, could make the mod more fun, yes... :) I don't think it is dramatic though...

In the new version many Soviet units behind the Don river are sitting in a trench (fortification hex) which makes it harder for the Axis side to quickly push through these and massacre the frozen units before they would be activated.

There are numerous other changes with the starting setup of the Soviet forces in 1941, mainly there are more light tanks but less T-34s and KVs to face in the first year. On the other hand there are less Soviet landed aircarft on the ground in the first turn (and all of them are visible thanks to the German recon aircraft now being moved forward) so the Luftwaffe can be more active against the more numerous Soviet ground units. In the end I am not sure if it is harder at all, but it is surely different and requires a different approach than in v2.0.

Tunisia is also quite different now, probably harder, and the AI may be better with Operation Crusader. But then again, on the other hand, the Germans have more units in North Africa in 1941 than in the previous versions so it may as well be compensated.

In general I wouldn't say that the new version is much harder. Maybe it is harder a bit, but it also depends on the playing style. I think it is harder in the sense that it is harder to exploit the weaknesses of the AI and it requires a more serious approach and perhaps a bit more thinking.

June 41 starting infantry position analysis

1 Pioneer center -> in total need for three units
5 Pz Grenadiers one France -> need to divide among Army Group South and North
3 Gebirgsjägers one front -> final target Caucasus, Grozny, Baku
1 Rom mountain infantry south -> final target Caucasus
1 Alpini Greece -> final target Caucasus
1 Rom Cav south -> final target Caucasus
4 Italian infantry in Italy -> move to east front
3 Croatian Yugo -> stay to fight Balkan partisans
1 Bulgaria Yugo -> stay to fight Balkan partisans
3 Romanian reserves -> stay to fight Balkan partisans
1 Slovak south -> follows Army Group South
5 Finnish infantry, of which one Jäger -> receives elite replacements, another one unit to be upgraded to Jäger

June 41 starting Panzer formations analysis
1x Pz IB east to Marder maybe
2x Pz IIC can be upgraded to Flam
3x Pz 38s upgrade to Pz III series (one is with Hungary)
4 x Pz III series
2 x Pz IV series

Two types for Panzers to develop in years 42-43 one is the Pz III/J1 the other is Pz IV.
Edit: Minus losses. Armor plan by end of 1943 is to have ~8 Pz III upgraded to newer versions and possible Panthers and ~5 Pz IVJ

June 41 starting Aufklarung formations position analysis
1x III F recon
5x recon vehicles of which three to be upgraded to Kradschutzen

Anti tank units allocation:
9x AT of which best three to StuG
1x Panzerjäger
1x 88 in Afrika
3x axis allies of which one in N. Afrika
1x mobile Renault AT

Target AT year 42-43:
3 Stug

13 light AA located mainly west (one Crete, one Norway) most to be upgraded later to 88 flak 18 with transport
2 Flak 18 to be given transport
1 88 with east front
2 SdKfz mobile 10/4 immediate returns to Germany upgrade to SdKfz 7/1

All artillery units are facing east except the 3 in N. Afrika and one in Greece, which is to be upgraded and go to east front

In West two Me 109 are available they upgrade to F-4 type, their purpose is to serve for West air defense

On the recon upgrades, goose_2 did some interesting upgrade as well, i.e. to much better recons, almost like small tanks!

I did a unit by unit analysis which unit goes where, what kind of upgrades, reinforcements etc :idea:

Yes, the first few turns is some sort of logistics... to have the right units at the right place...

That is why I did the above analysis, so I could divide the right amount of units to each army.
-North Army Group
-South Army Group
-Malta attackers
-N. Afrika DAK reinforcements
-Atlantic routes for ships and U-Boats
