ianiow (Visigoths) defeated paulmcneil (Franks) 64 vs 52

Half way through this game Paul was winning something like 40 vs 16 with one point for victory. I had congratulated him on a fine win. However he could not get that last point and my army gradually ground away his lead doing nothing too spectacular and eventually won. Not sure how I won this battle and Paul was very unfortunate not to get a decisive victory early on.

Weekly round-up
Another win for ruskicanuk (Romano-British) in Division A means he will finish in second place behind pantherboy (Pictish). In Division B the first agreed 0-0 draw between harveylh (Indian) and markwatson360 (Scots-Irish) means that the automatic promotion place will be decided by the outcome of the match between harveylh and dkalenda (Sassanids). Both have 7 wins from 8 matches at the moment. There is another very exciting finish to Division C where FightingPoultry (Romano-British) has finished his matches with 24 points but he can still be overtaken by 3 players. youngr (Western Huns) needs to beat Hendricus (Visigoths) to win the division, but if he doesn't manage this then either Hendricus or melm (Hepthalites) can still score more than 24 points. Crucially these two players still have to play each other as well.

Another win for klayeckles this week means that Nijis is the only player now who can stop him from winning Division A. klayeckles' last match is against bottom of the table Breogan though so he is a very strong favourite at the moment. at the bottom of the table paulmcneil, ZygfrydDeLowe and Breogan all desperately need points. in Division B the promotion issue has already been decided, but at the bottom iandavidsmith's very narrow victory over FightingPoultry gives him a chance of avoiding the wooden spoon. He needs at least a point in his last match against batesmotel unless FightingPoultry loses his last 2 matches against batesmotel and Ulysisgrunt.

How are those 6 chosen ?

The 11 scenarios consist of 3 basic groups - one concerning Clovis and the rise of the Franks; one concerning the sons of Clovis and further Frankish expansion; and the other one covers Theoderic's battles against Odovacer. I will need to look at them all again but they are fairly well balanced, but it most likely that I will use the Frankish ones so "the theme" will be Frankish warbands. If we were to get 24 players, rather than just 16, it would increase the chance of me using the Theoderic scenarios because we would be having paired games at the group stage with 3 players in a group instead of 4. I shall also be calling this section the Rapid Play Themed Event in future so that all the players who enter understand they have to get a move on straight away and not wait 2 weeks to start their group matches.

Hendricus ( Visigoth ) beat youngr ( Western Huns ) 63-44 %
The Huns kept charging after an initial feint, the fight was fierce and keeping the formation became hard. Numbers of the foottroops made the difference after a prolonged fight. Still there could have been a different result if some Huns managed to break and exploit their individual opponent. Thanks for the entertainment youngr.
