Post by BiteNibbleChomp »

I am now considering a v2.2 for the mod, and will probably be adding one of the two following mini-campaigns:

- Ottoman Campaign 1915-17: After a major success at Gallipoli, the German general (you) continues to fight for the Ottoman Empire in their quest to retake former parts of the Empire. Scenarios would probably be:

:arrow: Siege of Kut (Dec 1915)
:arrow: Sinai (1916)
:arrow: Egypt
:arrow: Libya.

- Ostaufmarsch: Germany scraps the Schlieffen Plan and focuses its attention on Russia at the beginning of the war. Scenarios:

:arrow: Poland 14
:arrow: Austrian Fortresses (I need a better name for this one!)
:arrow: Minsk
Then the campaign continues as normal in Serbia

What would you prefer to see? [The development of this update will largely be determined by mediafire regaining control of its server]

(Also, if any bugs or issues have appeared in v2.1, I would like to know about them!)

I would rather see a Middle-Eastern campaign, myself. :)

What has happened to Mediafire?

Someone flooded the server with over 500k downloads about 2 weeks ago and now no-one is able to upload anything until the server gets cleaned somehow. ('Begin Upload' button can be pressed but nothing will ever start uploading) I've been trying to upload v0.1.1 for the Mongol mod, but something else will be coming soon.

Is there any other server I could upload stuff to in the meantime (preferably that works on IE8, I'm still using WinXP!)

Thought that would be popular. Though seeing as Gallipoli is a choice, I might add a single 'Ostaufmarsch' scenario for if you do well in Poland 15 (March on Moscow, anyone?)

You can always get an account with Dropbox, Clouddrive, Googledrive or any other cloud provider of your choice and upload it there and make it available to the public. They all offer a free account with between 2 and 10 GB storage and some traffic limits but unless your mod is huge it won't be a problem.

P.S. You can, and actually should due to security, install and use another browser on Windows XP.

I have worked out what the new scenarios are going to be for v2.2:

Gallipoli :arrow: (DV only) Siege of Kut :arrow: Sinai :arrow: (DV) Egypt :arrow: Libya :arrow: Michael, then campaign continues as before.

Sinai :arrow: (MV) Gaza :arrow: Beersheba :arrow: Michael

Losses in any Middle eastern scenarios (except Egypt + Libya) end the campaign. Egypt sends you to Cambrai, Libya to Michael

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After Poland 15, there will be a new 'Ostaufmarsch' scenario focussing on a German attack aimed at Moscow in 1915. It will only be accessible with a DV, and will lead to the Somme once completed (it will still be possible to return to Estonia in 1917 even if Moscow is captured.)
If you defeat France in Paris 14 and then complete Ostaufmarsch, the campaign will continue to Jutland.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you fail in Michael and Georgette, ending up in Arras18, there will now be a way to end the war favourably. By gaining a DV in Arras (I'm not sure if this is entirely possible, but really skilled players may be able to do it!), you will be presented with a new 'Fall Offensive' scenario - this is like a re-run of the Spring Offensive against more Americans. However there will be less British and French troops (they are quite demoralised after the failure to break the Hindenburg Line), and no trenches to get through.

A DV or MV will end the campaign, saying that there is a negotiated peace where Germany keeps all of its 1914 territory as well as what it gained from Brest-Litovsk a few months earlier.

A loss here will lead to the German Revolution, I'm kind enough to save you from the hell of Mons 18

It seems that you now end all of your posts with at least one smily face, usually 3. I'm suspicious that you may be one (or all) of them in disguise!

Also I have begun the development of the first Middle Eastern scenario now, but the Mongol campaign has priority due to it still being in beta.

Yeah, that's me, alright. :)

I see you're still using XP. I loved XP, it's so much better and easier to use than Windows 8, which is a real chore. :(

Agreed. Windows 8 is not fun (I have a fairly new laptop with it on, but I got sick of it and just installed a virtual drive so I don't have to do what MS is trying to force me to :twisted: )

I only plan to upgrade once something reasonably good appears (probably 2020 or later!)

Windows 7 is the better Windows XP. The Aero UI draws a bit more on the resources of course but nowadays even the cheapest computers are so powerful you won't notice it. It looks quite modern and nice as well but if you don't like it and prefer the 1990 look of Windows 95 you can turn it off and go back to the old look. Except of that there are just small and logical improvements to the work flow and the UI. The kernel seems a tiny bit more stable then Windows XP but tbh even XP was already pretty good in that regard so most people won't even notice. The only problem is that Windows 7 already reached the end of the fist support cycle. There will be still critical updates and bug fixes for it for the next 5 years but no new features are going to be developed for it. Depending what comes around corner, DirectX 13 is confirmed for example but there may be more, and what you personally need this may or may be not a problem. If you have a license flying around somewhere anyway i would use it and upgrade from XP. The lack of bug fixes is already dangerous and it only get worse over time as more and more critical security issues get discovered but not fixed. Buying Windows 7 tho now may be a waste of money. Windows 8 is just junk but hopefully Windows 10 will be OK.

Yeah, but the OS takes up in excess of 20gb of hard drive space. My PC is slightly better than 100gb (which means I can only have 2 Total War-sized programs if I upgrade) and XP only requires 1.5 gb.

Anyway I don't buy many games (instead I find one or two and do everything I possibly can with them!), so DX12 isn't really an issue (everything good that I have runs fine on 9.0c)

We need to find a way to put this forum back onto the topic it is name after. :lol:

:evil: Darn. That means I have to actually do something now.

Though the idea of destroying everything in your path as Genghis Khan is quite a good reason to do something!

More news from the front. This time the focus is on Moscow. Although not the capital, Moscow was still a very important city in 1916. Victory will lead to Romania, and I have left a few gifts for you in the mission (and a new, fearsome enemy far stronger than anything you have encountered before!)

When I was testing it for the first time I found that some of the fortresses and barbed wire could be rail transported to other cities, notably Minsk. Do you want me to keep them this way or change it to make more sense? (Rail is very important in the scenario, in case you haven't noticed from the screenshots!)
