Czechoslovak Legion in the Polish Army (1939).
Shortly after the Czech lands became part of the III Reich in March 1939, about 4,000 anti-fascist officers and soldiers of the former Czechoslovak army, as well as civilians who did not want to stay in the territory occupied by Germany, moved to neighboring Poland. On April 30, the Czechoslovak Foreign Group was established with about 100 soldiers. Starting in May 1939, 1212 servicemen, including 477 pilots, were transported from Gdynia on 6 military ships to France. From those who remained in Poland, the Czechoslovak Legion (800 men) and the Czechoslovak Reconnaissance Squadron (93 men) began to be formed as part of the Polish Army from September 3, 1939. The Czechoslovak Legion was headed by Lt. Gen. Lev Prchala of the former Czechoslovak Army. His deputy was Colonel Ludvík Svoboda.
Although the formation of these units was not completed, their personnel took part in the battles against the German army in Galicia, although the losses were relatively low - 5 killed and 6 wounded. The Czechoslovak reconnaissance squadron became subordinate to Polish General Stefan Marian Strzemieński during the fighting.
September 18 - Shortly after the Red Army entered eastern Poland, some Czechoslovak legionnaires were captured near the village of Rakovets near Ternopil and interned in the Soviet camps of Olkhovtsy and Jaromlintsi.

Czechoslovak pilots are awarded Polish military decorations. September 1939.
Another part (about 250 men, including Lieutenant General Lev Prchal) managed to cross the Polish-Romanian border and reach France and the French possessions in the Middle East by various routes.
