Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Ill tidings from the Highlands! The dour Covenanting host led by General Waldorf has succeeded in defeating a Royalist army under General Doyley 50.
The Royalists were undismayed by the fact that they were greatly outnumbered, the enemy having nearly all foot and few horse, and a brisk engagement commenced with a spirited advance of Covenanting foot while General Doyley50 endeavoured to hold back the tide in the centre with his outnumbered infantry while manouvering his horse to the flanks to draw off some of the Scottish infantry and work around the enemy rear. Unfortunately, possibly due to overenthusiastic carousing and prodigous consumption of the local whisky the night before, the infantry in the centre began to melt away before the horse were able to make a decisive impact. No hedge skulking was to be seen from General Waldorf and his psalm singing host.
Doyley50 48, Waldorf 16, Waldorf wins by 32.

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Since both my battles appear to be concluding before many others get underway, does anyone fancy a rehearsal/friendly using start of 1644 troops?

Hmmm form where I am reading this it seems like grand and great news. Perhaps General Doyley50 should take a second look at this happy news, surely he can see the silver lining in it.Ill tidings from the Highlands! Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Can someone explain how reinforcements work? I seem to have started the battle short units, so start at a disadvantage? When to the reinforcements arrive? Approximately? Or may they not arrive at all?
Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
I've only ever played one game with them and that was by mistake. I did speculate earlier on the possibility you described and keyth said that if it didn't work out open battle would be applied instead. Another issue is that you just don't know where they are appearing and that seems unlikely in an ECW context - timing of arrival yes but not the direction of arrival. Either way it tends to messup up battle planning - do I attack and try and link up and if so where or fight defensively and then discover they are far distant? I wonder how cavehobbit is getting on. A bit of a bummer if our bonus points makes things worse not better.
Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
I think we need some RBS input on how this works and clarify/adjust the rules accordingly. An advantage in points should not result in you starting the battle at a disadvantage!Blathergut wrote:Can someone explain how reinforcements work? Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Cool - well I'll set up something using the same parameters as this comp. I fancy taking the 1644 Parliament and Scots - I won't inflict Raiders on you - choose an army list that is 1644 or before and post here and I'll set us off this afternoon or evening.deadtorius wrote:Im up for a nice friendly bash. Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
A veteran pike and 3 cavaliers appeared on my rear side (
) around turn 16. So that's about 200 points or so? As long as we know how they work. Probably better tho to use the open battle rather than reinforcements.
Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Victory for the Royalists in the North-West: Ironclad 36% Warlord 60% - 24% difference
The Royalists launched a major assault on their left and its success left them well positioned to intervene decisively in the central infantry battle. On the other flank Parliament achieved an even swifter breakthrough but unfortunatley for them it left their victorious troops too distant to participate in the final action. Thus the King's loyal soldiers demonstrate how right and true devotion triumphs over the false pretensions of the so called righteous and General Waldorf is denied his desired prize of piesnwhippets.

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
It would seem you would want to linger near your base edge. Otherwise, your reinforcements would have a long march to get to the action.
Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Ironclad, it was me you beat. Waldorf not Warlord. Assume you were referring to our game!
Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Yes I know - I corrected it as soon as I realised my mistake.
Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Confirming win for Ironclad in the North West - 60/36. +24%
Thanks for the game there Ironclad - at least I held you longer than I thought I was going to!

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
In the light of your experience, open battle would seem the better option for all bonus battles.Blathergut wrote:It would seem you would want to linger near your base edge. Otherwise, your reinforcements would have a long march to get to the action.
