Re: Divisions for Early Middle Ages

Post by stockwellpete »

In the process of adding the player ratings to the divisional tables above, I have realised that I have made a mistake and I should have put Richard (rbodleyscott) in Division A and ianiow in Division B, not the other way round. I think I mistakenly was looking at Season 2 data for the player ratings rather than the combined Season 1 and 2 ratings. Anyway, I have corrected it now and I know Richard is very keen to play pantherboy.

To explain it in detail - the Enemies of Rome tables from Season 2 were used as the basis for this new Early Middle Ages section. Last season, pantherboy finished first, shadowblack finished second, NikiforosFokas finished third, shawkhan2 finished fifth and Gorrick finished eighth. So all these five players retained their place in the "A" division. Nijis finished second in Division B and was given a discretionary promotion as his rating is very high at 7.78. So that left four places to fill from a group of A-rated players who had not entered "Enemies of Rome" last time. So I used their current rating to allocate the places - ruskicanuk 8.50, DzonVejn 7.50, Sennacherib 7.50 and rbodleyscott 6.67. ianiow just missed the cut with a current rating of 6.59 so he will play in Division B this season.

I have got all the army selections in now apart from one player, Verdere, so I can start the process of allocating armies this evening. I hope to have it completed by tomorrow lunchtime.

Re: Army allocations for Early Middle Ages in process

Post by stockwellpete »

I have allocated armies to players in Division A and B using the new regulations (involving the player ratings. I cannot do Division C right now as Verdere has not yet submitted his army choices and the deadline for doing so is not until the end of today. So these will de done tomorrow morning.

As you probably know we do love a statistic or two in the FOG2DL. So far for the 20 allocations that have been done in this section, the new system has given 9 first choices, 5 second choices, 2 third choices, 3 fourth choices and 1 fifth choice.

We still have a vacancy in Classical Antiquity and I would like a second reserve for the Themed Event. Anyone interested?

I need your army selection for Early Middle Ages as soon as possible please. Please do not choose an army/nation that has already been allocated in Division C . . .

I also need your army selections for Late Antiquity. Please do not choose an army/nation that has already been allocated in Division C . . .

Another stat for you - 30 army selections in this section resulted in 24 first choices, 4 second choices, 1 third choice and 1 player has still not made his selection. Pretty good, I think.

All the army allocations have now been posted. There were one hundred army allocations across Classical Antiquity, Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages - 65 were first choice, 19 second choice, 8 third choice, 4 fourth choice, 1 fifth choice and 3 no selections. So overall I think this new system has worked very well. :D

Well it seems that I may be leading the pack by getting my 4th choice in both the sections I entered. Still, at least it gives me a plausible excuse for doing badly. ;)

Welcome to the 4th choice club mate. Don't worry. They are just scared of us. We could command an army of fluffy bunny rabbits and still cause our enemy to shudder with fear. 8)

Ha, sorry, I've been very busy these days and I forgot about this tournament.
Main problem here (maybe that's why you also lost some candidates) is that I still do not receive email notifications when PM comes.

Anyway, if you need someone for a replacement, wherever, count me in - I'll try to check the forums on a daily basis from now on - at least to see how the Tournament goes on.
Have fun, gentlemen !

Hello Christophe, I have a place in Classical Antiquity that you can have and I desperately need a second reserve for the Themed event in case anyone fails to start on Monday. I will send a PM to you tomorrow morning with the details.

Re: There is just 1 place left in Classical Antiquity . . .

Post by stockwellpete »

I am reserving the last place for Herode_2 for a couple of days until I get a chance to speak to him again. He has always been reliable so he will be a good addition to the tournament.

Edit: Herode_2 has now taken the last place.

Fine ! I'll take the available place in Classical Antiquity then, sounds good :)

I'll tell you more tomorrow about armies choice (or, if it's already stated, no problem, just tell me, I'll take whatever comes in)
I won't candidate for more right now since I'm not sure I'll be able to properly play more than one section.

Re: Calling Verdere . . .

Post by stockwellpete »

I still have not received your army selections for Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages. I need them by the end of today otherwise you will be removed from both those sections and I will look for replacements. You have also entered the Themed Event, which requires players to start promptly tomorrow so if I have not heard from you by the end of the day I will also be replacing you in that section. I have received your army selections for Classical Antiquity so you will remain in that event for the time being but if you have not opened your "welcome" PM or communicated with me by the end of this coming Wednesday then I will replace you in this section as well.

I am sorry if players feel that this is unnecessarily harsh but there has been far too much messing around at the start of the two previous seasons of the FOG2DL and my patience has worn a bit thin. I don't think it is too much to ask that players respond to instructions fairly promptly.

Calling Triarii

Post by stockwellpete »

You have still not opened your "welcome" PM and the tournament starts tomorrow. You have entered just the Themed Event which requires players to make a prompt start as all the group stage matches have to be completed by the end of October. I also sent you a PM earlier in the week offering you places in other sections of the tournament but that remained unanswered for 4 days. That offer has now been cancelled as the vacancies have been filled. If I have not heard from you by the end of the day I will replace you in the Themed Event so that the other players can make a prompt start tomorrow.

Re: Season 3 Tournament diary and news . . .

I sent out 58 "Welcome to Season 3 of the FOG2DL" messages on Friday and 43 of them have been opened so far. So that just leaves 15 players to "sign in" at the moment. The reason that I do this is that it helps me to identify quickly who the non-starters might be. It is always the case that there are a few non-starters out of the people who register and this season I am trying to intervene as early as possible to minimise any disruption to the start of the tournament.

There are a couple of issues around the Themed Event to be resolved by the end of today and I will post again this evening about this. The last vacancy in Classical Antiquity has now been filled but there may be one new vacancy in Classical Antiquity, Late antiquity and Early Middle Ages if I do not hear from a particular player.

In FOG1DL we did have a rule that said new players could only enter 2 sections and they would not be eligible for the Themed Event in their first season. I am going to re-introduce this rule for Season 4.

I am still waiting to hear from Verdere and Triarii. If I have not heard from them by (pm (BST) tonight then I will be looking to replace them with reserves. I am standing by myself and I need one more player to fill the other vacancy.

Themed Event: arrange your matches here

Post by stockwellpete »

Themed Event

Instructions

Matches in this section are played to a tighter schedule and must be prioritised above matches from other sections. The group stage matches must all be completed by October 31st. The knock-out matches will be allowed 14 days for completion. Unfinished matches will be subject to adjudication.

The group stage matches are single battles, while the knockout stage of the tournament will use paired games ("mirror matches") to decide who progresses to the next round.

Either player may set up the challenge in this section. Remember to PM your opponent as well as placing the challenge and password in this thread.

For matches in this section players will select "Open Battle" and will field a "Medium" army and choose a "Medium" battlefield unless otherwise directed. Players are free to customise their army before each battle so "Default" is the correct Force Selection option. Terrain will always be "Pot Luck" unless otherwise specified. There are no exceptions to this standard set-up for a match. If a match is set-up incorrectly for any reason then it must be re-started as soon as possible.

The final % scores for each player are taken from the in-battle display in the top left-hand corner of the screen and not the Final Losses screen that appears after the battle has ended where losses are adjusted for wounded and deserted troops.

Reporting the result of a match is the responsibility of the winning player. However, if you are the loser in a match and notice that the result has not been posted within 24 hours please post the result yourself. This helps to keep the league tables up to date.

Where players finish with the same number of points at the end of the group stage, the points aggregate from the matches between those player will be used to decide the final places in the group table. If this does not separate the players then lots will be drawn to determine which player(s) proceed to the next stage of the competition.

Please be sure to familiarise yourself with both the Rules of Competition and the Players' Guide.

The Rules are here . . . viewtopic.php?f=501&t=80755
The Guide is here . . . viewtopic.php?f=501&t=81008
