My thoughts on the game thus far

It is 1965 and the US ground war in Vietnam is in full swing. As a US Army commander, wage a counter-insurgency (COIN) war to secure the Ia Drang valley, on the border with Cambodia.

Helicopters can only perform two special actions (usually a pick up and drop off) per turn. This is probably what you're running into.

A helicopter can only perform two actions in one turn, this was done to prevent the sneaky player from hopping from village to village unloading/reloading infantry to get intel. etc

so it can happen that you have movement points over but can't do any actions ....

Thanks. Is there a way for US forces to lay mines?

The only way is to use the Ambush action key with infantry, they go into ambush and plant claymores, which gives them a 25% combat boost in any ensuing combat, but the infantry have to remain there. There is not way for Player to lay mines like the VC do, just would unbalnce the game and not really that representative of the war, the VC did most of the boobytrap/mining.

Lots of errors today when using choppers to pick up wounded units. I pick up the unit and the game shuts down. I open it up again and that turn hasn't happened according to the game. It's happened about six times today. The only way to get the game to proceed is to make a different move.

Chinook offloads howitzer then the games freezes. Each time I try to unload same thing. Nothing responding.

That's a lot of lock ups, not a common occurrence , hmmm

What device are you using and software version ?

Yes, US starts on the Eastern side of the map, all about balancing the game :)

Hang on, we do have a bug logged for chinook hello's action buttons , are all these lockups related to chinook ops ?

See previous posts by Chippit, bug found and sorted for next release :)

I have played a few more games and have some thoughts regarding gameplay.

One thing I would like to do is be able to dump supplies if I decide I need to do something else, like evac infantry that are injured when I am going to supply someone. Alternatively, you could increase the action limit on helicopters. I continually run into this limit when I want to deliver fresh troops or supplies to the field and pick up injured units. This is something that happened all the time in ongoing battles and it seems unrealistic and creates a lot of frustration for myself to be restricted. It doesn't need to be unlimited, just make it 4 instead of 2. Or, if you are trying to prevent people from infantry spamming villages, make the infantry use their movement points in the village so they have to stay for a whole turn.

I would also like to have a way to clear lz's via air strike, similar to the air strike button so that it requires resources and could be cool down limited. This was something else that happened regularly that really hinders air mobile operations with it's absence.

Also, it would be awesome to see an F100 doing CAS missions.

You can do this already. Airborne units that are currently carrying supplies or ammunition will have a discard button appear for them (currently a red 'X') that performs this exact action. It does, however, cost the unit an action point.

With regards the number of actions a chopper can perform, like so many of my answers on game play parameters, it comes down to balance. If the US has unlimited airmobility the VC would not even get out of the starting blocks
inferno493 wrote:if you are trying to prevent people from infantry spamming villages, make the infantry use their movement points in the village so they have to stay for a whole turn.
This was a major consideration for the limitation but certainly not the only one, mine / VC anti air / NVA anti air / limited actions are all there to restrict the US from romping around the map at will. The prototype did not have this restriction as the map was much bigger, we tightened up the map for iPad and hence also the mobility.

I think two actions are representative of a mission, it forces the player to think before just deploying the choppers, it very important part of the game, certainly to win on veteran level, this is key, I ride those horses until the red dot appears :)

I appreciate your feedback, you seem to 'get' this game and the war itself, myself I would prefer the Bronco for CAS, maybe in an expansion.... :D
