Any release date for the new patch (iPad)?

Re: Any release date for the new patch (iPad)?
Just to calrify as I started the discussion:
I congratulated the developers to the ipad version and I meant it. It's a great game even without some of the features available on PC and the many scenarios easily justify the moderate price for the mega pack that I paid.
That having said I expressed my disappointment with the patch itself as it addresses exactly one real useful feature - turning off music and sound. I am absolutely not interested in resource constraints or other reasons why more could not have been done, it's a company decision which I can or can not accept, the result will be the same. As I bought the game knowing about missing features, no problem for me.
As I played Rudancourts PG clone years ago I forgot to thank him for that. It was totally free btw.
Regards,
Thorsten

The ideal solution would be to get another programmer on board and have them run Panzer Corps while Alex does Armageddon. The problem is recruiting and training someone takes time which we just don't have right now. We'd dearly love to be giving more time to PzC as it has a lot of life left in it but we just don't have that option.
I know it should not be your problem but sadly there just isn't anything we can do. We have limited resources and have to spread ourselves between multiple fronts. Armageddon has a contractual deadline we cant miss and so we have no choice but to focus on that till its done. I do expect to have an iPad update out before the end of the year so maybe 6 months away, but game development is very hard to schedule especially with such small teams. The slightest thing can have significant knock on effects.

Iain, don't tell me, I am a project manager since 1993. In no position to give advice as I don't know the specific boundaries of game development. But one piece of useless advice nevertheless - anytime I thought it would be a drain on resources to get in another desperately needed help and decided against it due to short time frames and deadlines it was a mistake

Thorsten; Cut Iain some slack. He was honest enough to state Slitherine's approach and I agree. I was project engineering manager for a major aerospace contractor and brought many a program in early and under budget. Resources are assigned based upon making money on the bottom line and not tweaking a product which won't impact sales. I think we are in the nice to have area.

Did anyone else lose all their sound effects, whether music is on or off?

I bought the whole deal on ipad day one. Was hoping for everything I had on base PC game. Then was hoping advanced options and combat detail would be in patch. So as a customer disappointed. As a former project manager in IT, understanding.
But - I look at the bigger picture, the kinda company Slitherine is, the kind of great never fade away honest forum presence Iain and company provide across all the forums I read, and it's more than ok. I look at even a bigger picture, and realize what a wonderfully immersive diversion these guys and Matrix and AGEOD provide an old veteran like me struggling thru mutiple back surgeries, no more hot shot career... alot of you guys know the deal as 60 approaches. I don't mean to play a violin. Just laying with multiple pillows in a weird position real thankful for the version of PC that's available here on my iPad mini and the absolutely wonderful quality of life improvement it provides me at a nominal cost.

Really glad to hear you're enjoying it, and I hope things improve in the health department.michaelincol wrote:Just laying with multiple pillows in a weird position real thankful for the version of PC that's available here on my iPad mini and the absolutely wonderful quality of life improvement it provides me at a nominal cost.

As a college-level programmer I understand the time it takes to do these kinds of things. It's not like (whoever is coding) can just copy and paste the code to the iPad. There are many hoops to jump through bugs to squash along the way.
I myself have never played the PC version so I don't know what I'm missing, which may almost be a blessing because I can be a very impatient person.

Adding someone to the team is definitely something we'd like to do but realistically we can't until after Arnageddon is complete.
The problem with game coding is that the wrong person is worse than nobody. They can actually do significant damage, not even counting the time it takes to train them up. Games tend to be a lot more complex than normal applications and it can be hard to see things going wrong until its too late. I'm not saying they are always more complex as it depends on the game and the application but type of games we do are at the most complex end because of the game model and UI as well as the rendering and performance and sheer volume of assets you have to deal with. Add to that Alex is located in St Petersburg and ideally needs someone with perfect it all gets quite tricky to do with any speed!

1 Dev? I worship him (damn where's the emote?) now.LandMarine47 wrote:Can't blame them. Slith promised to have the game out by 2013, and the Beta Test was only there to test the games gameplay and stability. Features and other important stuff were left out
Plus there was only one developer working the entire iPad game, so he has lots of stress on him.
