I have found 650pt test games to be fine on a 6 x 4 but must admit I prefer to get my 8 x 5 table tennis table out for bigger games and would then use a 40mm MU.
Th problem is most people don't have access to a bigger table and most comps are 6 x 4 or the space needs go out of hand for 25mm making it rather uneconmic to stage vis a vis other games.
We have the challenge this weekend so i will keep a good eye on the games there in between firing my mass longbows at everyone!

Si, remind me never to travel to the UK to play table tennis, I'm sure 9x5 is traditional
Re 25mm FOG, while we all appreciate that the UK scene is better served with 6x4, 650 points etc, surely you have noticed that the overwhelming response on this thread and others is that the rest of the world tend to larger tables and would like to play at around 800 points. Hence all the heat that is being generated over trying to find the optimum MU for those games - something which seems not to have been done a lot in testing

Hi Steve
We tested 25m and are happy with the game on a 6x4 but for sure if you have more space go for it. We tested bigger tables as well. We could of course have tested 25mm on bigger tables a lot more still but then the rules would have been out 6 months later which was not the best thing overall. For my part I always felt the 25mm world network would rapidly help us adjust if they need to - as you are all doing - and that views would vary anyway. I like the 25mm MU on smaller tables as it gives a different game.
To be honest I have tried 40mm MU on an 8 x 5 and of course its great as largely a replica of the 15mm but bigger. I think you can safely say we are not too precious about it. If you want the same feel and have a table big enough go for it certainly with my blessing for one!!.
A 50mm MU would create a 150mm 3MU rout distance which is 2.5 base fronts cs 25mm and 15mm being roughly 1.9 base fronts. If you go for beyond 40mm the main thing that happens is that the viral spread increases a fair bit which you may not want. Thus 40mm IMO is the better alternative, as this is exactly 2 bases and not beyond. This is the key calibration issue inthe rule mechanics, the others will flow from it. So bear that in mind as you debate and experiment.
My table tennis table is 8 x 5 - no wonder I find it harder to hit with my top spin forehand than the ones down the sport club!!
