Try sneaking some units around the back of the fortress (on the western side) to aid in the attack from the rear. It is slow going but they can get there in time.Messmann wrote:By the way, Modlin is a difficult one in 39. How do you finish that one with 10 losses average? Air power?

I've beaten the 39 game with everyone but Manstein, I would assume it is doable, just that I have not done it. No game is easy, but after beating them I could do it again with maybe 10 to 20 restarts to make up for poor combat results. To beat each level the first time probably took me 100 save / restrarts per general. So not easy. Manstein gut feeling would take me several hundred saves / restarts to be Sealion 1940. Like I said I assume it is possible.timek28 wrote:Yeah rightTarrak wrote: But there are people who claim Rommel still awards you way to much prestige and beat Mannstein easily and claim the game is to easy..In the first mission you gain around 160 prestige on Rommel. How many strength points could you replace during the combat with this much prestige? 2 maybe?? Give me a break... (not you but the ones who claim it to be easy)
Maybe it is doable, but basically 90% of your combat results should be 3,4,5-0 in your favor. And that is only possible with heavy artillery and aerial support which is not available all the time, especially with weak and slow set artillery in the beginning. Also I read figures about Africa battles and there was usually considerable losses on German side, and greater losses on British side. But ratio was rarely 1-10 like it is needed here in order to save prestige It was usually around 1-2 ratio in lost man or equipment (more or less). But correct me if I'm wrong. However I do agree the British had more accessible replacements.
Someone who beats game easily on that difficulty should put up some YouTube videos to prove how he did it, and I would congratulate him on masterful strategy. Otherwise I could think off it only as bragging over the internet, or making it up.

Please have the FM's, Mansteins and Rommels truthfully state the number of cheat codes, captured unit lists, scenario restarts, turn replays, and campaign play repeats used along with reporting their fantastical results!

What fantastical results are you talking about?wargovichr wrote:Please have the FM's, Mansteins and Rommels truthfully state the number of cheat codes, captured unit lists, scenario restarts, turn replays, and campaign play repeats used along with reporting their fantastical results!

With Manstein (nee Lewinski) and Guderian, I don't think a straight play-through on the Grand Campaign is really practical. The super-strength units and timelines don't mesh with those games. Those levels were added during the development of the "vanilla" (original) Panzer Corps as added challenges. By the time the the GC (East) development began, the devs responded to player feedback and altered turn limits and unit strengths to a more tailored challenge in the common levels (say, Lt. to FM), and only Rommel remained germaine in my mind.wargovichr wrote:Please have the FM's, Mansteins and Rommels truthfully state the number of cheat codes, captured unit lists, scenario restarts, turn replays, and campaign play repeats used along with reporting their fantastical results!
I do think the Rommel level is very useful, as it gives a real challenge to manage upgrades, overstrength, and unit tactics, but you can still win DVs consistently and have that instant gratification. It is entirely possible to play the GC from '39 to '45, without saves/cheats/reloads and achieve DVs consistently in all but a a very, very few scenarios on Rommel. Modlin in '39 and and Oboyan in '43 are the only ones that I can not consistently get a DV in while playing on Rommel, in all of the various scenarios and years. No reloading, no cheat codes, etc. I certainly can't do that on Lewinski or Guderian. GC West, AK, and AC have proven to also be imminently winnable on Rommel, but it requires work and experience and isn't going to happen for the first time player.
But this is speaking specifically to the desire to win decisively all the way through; if you want a more historic result or steeper challenge, Deducter's mods can give that, or try the other levels and you can scrape out MVs and really feel a different type of challenge. I really do appreciate the various levels of difficulty, both stock, locked, and modded ones, as they keep the game challenging and relevant no matter how experienced you get. While I don't play a super large number of games, you can use them to get more bang for your gaming dollar than with any other game I've encountered! I'm embarrassed to say the many levels have kept me at the game, I'm probably down to $.01 US per hour. Yikes.
