Thanks Marc - I have had a couple of offers of figures but I'd hate to turn up if it meant robbing you of the opportunity to play.

I'm just off on hols but I'll pick this up again when I get back.

Cheers

More of a problem if you turn up and with you and I we get an even number :-) and we're an army short

I'm quite happy to supervise/make the tea if we get an odd number

The all important whose-who britcon comp is over.... Lets start the biding/banter/guess of what armies might be bringing.... :)

Me: definitely not covenanter... I think the King needs a turn for the worst :)
Ben: french impact foot...
Byron: who knows... Something sneaky as he's been talking to the hoof master on army selections... But needs to talk very nicely to people to borrow figs... Which means we can conspire to stop too good an Army :)

Time for me to move on from the Samurai (plus I don't have any 25mm Samurai figures! :o ), so in recognition of my advanced years, it'll be Dad's army for me (They don't like it up 'em! Mr Mainwaring!)

Better tell Byron not to take a horsey army to a 25mm competition on 6' x 4' tables. There's very little room to manoeuvre and the infantry this time can push the horse off the table! Take horse's to either Warfare or preferably to one of the 1 dayers to practice. Alasdair is a master of horsey tactics but it's taken him 3 years to hone his god-like skills - it's not an easy choice for mere FoGR mortals like us!!

I can say its... from byron its horse for warfare and i think he will be getting a few practice games in with alasdair!!!
for 25mm i know its foot something... alasdair admitted it is not an outing for horse....
We'll, i'm staying with the scottish theme.. (why scots, ive no idea... parents from derbyshire and born in Aden.. ) in true montrose style ill be jumping teams and bringing royalist scots... started painting, well assembling last night... the compulsory horse unit...

Hi

As there are a number of use coming from Oxford we would like to have some practice games but nee to know some of the setup rules to be used.

Currently 650pts 40mm movement.

1) a)Will it be pre set terrain
b)If not pre set terrain, will setup be the std 1 +1-4 pieces or will this be reduced to 1+1-3 or even as far as 1+ 0-2. Also will terrain size be based on a 40mm MU or a 1" MU and finally will placement be based on 40mm MU or a 15mm MU, ie. How far apart etc.

2) Deployment, is this based on 40mm MU,or 1" MU, if 40mm MU 15MU's is the centre of the table and how will that be adjudicated for deploying Light troops.

3) Flanks, are they remaining as 12" and 6" at the back

Sorry about all the questions, just would like to have a reasonably accurate idea of the setup for the practice games.

Thanks

And so begins the another frantic painting marathon for a comp with little likely hood of a practice game before hand :)

http://muchallsarmy.wordpress.com/categ ... ough-bash/

Thinking for Army choice (Jacobite)
1. Interesting army to paint
2. As 40mm movement on 6x4s...
Artillery will get limited amount of shots off...
Marching will be mainly about short edges to short edges...
Small army sizes as 650pts... IMO ~10 BGs depending amount of superiors brought.
Impact round will even more crucial...
Be nice to have a melee factor for a change...
3. Hopefully limited mounted.

And then Ill roll the dice :)

So what are other people's army thoughts/ideas... Or are we being cagey/serious :)

French TYW for me - lots of impact foot, artillery and dragoons.

BTW Nigel, I have 32 nicely painted Warlord Covenanters for sale should you wish to return to the side of the righteous.

Hello all,
Apologies for not checking in for a while -computer problems (Home PC and work disallows entry to the forum)

Plan is :-

40 mm MUs.
6' by 5' tables (as we have a good supply of these at Farnborough and our cloths generally fit)
12" side zones (or we'll never fit the foort)
pre set terrain - not sure about sizes yet.

Distance from baseline - normal i.e 40 and 60 cm (as we are on 6' by 5')

Hope that works for everyone

And me - to give you 16.

The signs are looking good that I can cobble together enough figures.
