I think what Dave should have said was 'its exactly the same in every way, even the air fare and the need for a passport. In fact just call it Belgium'

Like Belgium except add about 30lbs. The fat gamer body type is considered typical.

Why? is it that the new Grand Prix track in Austin going to be an identical copy of Spa, or is it that Belgium full of cow ranches and oil baronsphilqw78 wrote:I think what Dave should have said was 'its exactly the same in every way, even the air fare and the need for a passport. Re: US Team Tournament 2013
The best way to think about it is that January in Texas will be like August in Belgium. And fortunately there is now a lot of good craft beer in Texas, even in Plano (suburb north of Dallas). You'll probably not see any cows on the streets (after all, it ain't Fort Worth), maybe just some cowboy hats and boots and you'll a few "Y'alls."
Austin is planning to send at least two teams and maybe three. Looks like I'll get to play the early period.

Re: US Team Tournament 2013
It sure would be nice if the 1st period stopped at 800 BC. This would cut out the Later Neo-Assyrian and Uraritian, which seem to dominate this period because of all the Superior armored cavalry and good infantry they can take. In the 2012 tournament, something like half the armies in this period were one of these two. Maybe it is too late, but it will be a much less interesting tournament if all (or even a majority) of the armies are only one of to dominating options.

Re: US Team Tournament 2013
The periods are set after much gnashing of teeth over whether to shift the dates or disqualify armies who either placed last year or were used multiple times.

Re: US Team Tournament 2013
As Chris said, there was a big debate on this among the Captain's organizing committee. The prevailing view seemed to be limitations like what you discussed were undesirable. If I recall part of that was the expectation that in v2 Light Chariots are possibly going to become more viable among other changes.

Re: US Team Tournament 2013
Alternatively, take an army that's good against expensive mounted. My Akkadians love to be drawn against these guys. Up at impact, equal in melee - I'm 7 points, they're loads. Kill them on base losses. Meanwhile my 8 point cheap heavy foot heavy weapon guys give the armoured foot a bad day. All the extra points stove in the flanks.GHGAustin wrote:It sure would be nice if the 1st period stopped at 800 BC. Re: US Team Tournament 2013
The 2013 US Team Tournament is coming on fast. All participants should be reminded that the tournament will be scored using the 30-0 system used at the 2012 ITC in Lisbon and not the standard 25-0 system. A sample scoresheet can be found here
