Re: Godendag - 19th & 20th January 2013
Is anything planned on Friday night Richard, or do I just go to the nearest pub and drink?

Or get an ipad and expand the view.philqw78 wrote:Files cannot be attached in posts here. If put in as a text list they are very difficult to align, so people tend to use images.
probably the best way to enlarge it would be
hit the print screen key
open paint
paste the screenshot into paint.
cut the bit of screen that you want out and paste that as a new image
save it, and zoom.
Or buy stronger specs

the BBC weather reports don't look to promising for tomorrow in and around Usk. Central London are wondering what the locals think?

Well it was a bit disconcerting to discover that we are (allegedly) close to the epicentre of the snow. However, I think that Usk may be just outside the red alert area - the snow is likely to beworse to the west of Usk than in Usk and points east. We always get less snow here than in Abergavenny for example, as we are at a lower altitude.davesaunders23 wrote:the BBC weather reports don't look to promising for tomorrow in and around Usk. People are welcome to ring me at home: 01291 672496 if you aren't going to make it. Not much point in ringing me for travel information, however, I will only see Usk itself.
I will probably start round 1 a bit later than planned, and anyone who makes it after that can have a bye for the first round.

Note that this does NOT include Usk. Although it is snowing here. The Met Office's red warning for snow, which is unusual and means all non-essential travel should be avoided, applies to the south-eastern side of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains until 21:00 GMT on Friday.

So, OK if you live in Usk, but perhaps somewhat more challenging if you need to actually get there from, say, either the East or indeed the Westrbodleyscott wrote: .. Usk does also look to be somewhat in the middle of the red bit here.. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ ... nings.html

It is certainly likely to be a challenge getting to Usk from the West. Less so from the East. It just depends on whether the motorway is open, which should be fairly easy to discover.madaxeman wrote:So, OK if you live in Usk, but perhaps somewhat more challenging if you need to actually get there from, say, either the East or indeed the Westrbodleyscott wrote: .. Indeed, but it isn't. See the met office clarification above. The red warning is for the high ground of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons. Usk is low lying.Usk does also look to be somewhat in the middle of the red bit here.. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ ... nings.html
(And it has stopped snowing in Usk at present).

Re: Godendag - 19th & 20th January 2013
Latest update. I have just (at 3.30pm) driven out from Usk to the A449 (the dual carriageway from the M4 to Usk). The road from Usk to the A449 is completely clear apart from a tiny bit of slush in the middle of each carriageway where no car wheels have been. This is turn suggests that the A449 has been well travelled and should hence currently be clear - unless there is another major fall of snow.
There is currently no snow falling.
The Usk weather forecast is for Light Snow between 8pm and 1am tonight, and maybe some more Light Snow tomorrow afternoon.
Richard

SELWG have arrived from London without difficulty.
Re: Godendag - 19th & 20th January 2013
After a year and a bit of lurking, I've finally registered and this is my first post.
The main reason for Central London is that we're staying in Abergavenny, thanks to the suggestion of someone who shall remain nameless. We'll be setting off early tomorrow and hope to be there for the kick-off but it will depend on the state of the roads. We've just got to hope that we can get to Abergavenny in the evening or will be facing a last minute scramble to find hotels!
