Re: Completely OT: 51 weeks to wait
It's been a long time since i read 'The Hobbit' but i don't recall any references to some hidden menace or some darkness awakening.Perhaps because Tolkien hadn't conceived the rest of Middle Earth when he wrote it.Fair play to P.Jackson though with the poetic licencing and linking the films, nice idea.Enjoyed the first 'Hobbit' movie, looking forward to the next one.
Molon labe!

Gandalf KNEW, having received recon from the young ranger Aragorn who had tracked Gollum. He sensed that THE Ring was about as had Saruman, that's why he clammed up when Galadriel asked, "Why the hobbit?," and why Saruman poo-pooed the finding of the morgul blade so as to not let on he would soon be after The Ring himself. Of course, later, we know what happened to Saruman.... he fell under Sauron's spell while using the palantir to scope around.
Yes, Gandalf KNEW....he knew that only the simple country-folk purity of a hobbit could touch and handle The Ring. In the Movie, The Hobbit," Gandalf immediately covers for Bilbo when Thorin pointedly asked how Bilbo had made it out of orc-infested Moria by himself. And we get the heavy hint that Gandalf knew that the fire-drake Smaug would have to be taken out because if it would come under the spell of Sauron during a War For The Ring wide ranging disaster would result, just as later on Gandalf knew he had to battle the Balrog of Moria to the death.
Yes, precious, Gandalf knew....sneasky!
