You cd be right. Tho what armies do they have a compensating advantage against?

The key questions when evaluating armies are:

1. How many games have you won with them?

and

2. How many times have they beaten you?

If the answer to both questions is never or hardly ever then there is something wrong. Either with the army itself, or with our perception of it.
I have run Dacians about 8 times althought not in a competition.

Against the same player
Destroyed him a couple when he ran Cataphracts. Lost when he ran romans.

Fought a few others and either won or came dam close.

Never had less than 7 BGs of impact foot.

I think the dacians could very well run over a WOTR english army.

That's genuinely impressive. The limited numbers of heavy-weapon falx wd go some way to negating the problem of fighting armoured with protected troops (Tim's original concern). But if you can beat shock mounted with medium order warband you may well have cracked-it.

Under the previous, DBM, set there were several armies which were thought to be "dogs" until a good player adopted and transformed them. It sounds like you may have found the answer to using warband. I look fd to hearing how they do in competition.

I'm not suggesting dacians are the secret super army.

Just that they have a decent situation versus non-skilled swordsmen.

Also the falxmen who I really thought were nifty have not proven elite yet.

The army does need an IC to help make CMTs when you need too.

Well I've been runing a Thracian army with all the MF with HW. They've done well against a poorly led MRR army, but after getting run over by Alexandrian cav a few times I'm considering backing up and getting a few BG of OSp. It's an even swap, point wise. I also have a problem of rolling 1's when evading my lights. This wouldn't be so bad if my opponent would stop rolling 6s for his VMD.

I am becoming less keen on Heavy weapon troops generally.
