Stew101's Huns defeat Heidipie's Carthaginians.
Score 53 - 26.

The poor Carthaginians seemed to have got lost and tried to invade the Asian steppe.
They wound up on a wide flat open plain, with a scattering of hills, marsh, rough and woods around the edges.
Their mass of heavy & medium infantry looked formidable, but Attila ordered some reckless charges by his LC into combat.
Whilst these brave lads pinned the foot in place, the Huns pushed heavy cavalry and lancers through the Carthaginian lines.
The Huns were then able to husband their arrows and mass fire on selected enemy units.
The breached Carthaginian lines nearly held out till dark and they drove several Hunnic units from the field, but they were unable to contend with the Hunnic mobility.

My thanks to Heidipie for the game.

SnuggleBunnies (Norman) draws with heidipie (English)

The English garrisoned a tall hill flanked by trees. The Normans attempted an attack, met a little success against outlying troops (11%-0%) but then ran out of steam and withdrew to safety.

Division 2

PrincipeRomanes (Caucasian 320 BC - 476 AD) defeats Indibil (Frankish 751-887 AD) 46-13

After much manouvering (two map rerolls), the armies met on a plain dominated by large hills, a marsh and a few trees on the Caucasian left flank. Predictably, the Caucasians army with its core of irregular foot went all-in on the rougher ground. Despite needing to charge through marsh and uphill, the Caucasian left quickly overwhelmed the lightly held Frankish right that couldn’t match the Caucasian swarm of arrows despite bringing both massed archer units available to it. With the Frankish right at risk of collapsing, the stronger left flank charged wherever possible, including some irregulars taking cover in a small copse of trees and a few in rough ground. The Frankish numbers and quality quickly poked holes in this part of the Caucasian line despite the terrain challenges but it was not enough to save the battle as the more numerous victorious foot on the Caucasian left could swarm some of the heavier Frankish infantry in the centre.

Thanks for the game with two very asymmetric armies!

principesromanes (Wallachian 1430-1449 AD) defeats Rosedelio (Seleucid 124-63 BC) 61-55

The heart of this battle happened around a large piece of rough ground between the two armies. The Seleucids smashed one flank of the Wallachian army as the unprotected bowmen made for the rough. However, enough Wallachian cavalry made it through holes in the Seleucid line to rain down arrows and pick of vulnerable Seleucid units. However, the match was nearly lost when the archers who were supposed to be hiding in the rough were too eager to pepper the Seleucid backs with arrows and found themselves caught out and quickly torn apart by the Seleucid phalanx. In the end, enough Wallachian cavalry was able to rally and manoeuver to strike a phalanx and raw thorophoi in the rear to put the Wallachians over the top.

Thanks for the game - it was as close as the score suggests.

Alexhstandish (Hunnic) beat Gort 7078 (Nobatae) 40 : 14

A very congested battlefield with the sea on one side and large forests central. The Huns brought their warband allies and numerous lancers. The Nobatae put spear infantry in the one open terrain gap with multiple bow either side in rough ground and the forests. The Hun warbands managed to get to the Nobatae spearmen and force them back, the lancers then exploiting gaps.

Good game Don, many thanks

principesromanes rockmanbob123 Greek 280-228 BC English (Yorkist) 1455-1482 AD

1) principesromanes (Greek 280-228 BC) defeats rockmanbob123 (English (Yorkist) 1455-1482 AD) 51-14

The armies lined up on a narrow battlefield, with an impassible river to the Greek right and a large hill and even on the Greek left. Just left of the hill was a dense forest. Knowing the dismounted English men-at-arms and billmen were stronger infantry than the Greek hoplite and thureophoroi, the Greeks knew a cunning strategy would be required. The Greeks deployed a large contingent of thureophoroi to march through the woods to fall on the rear of the advancing English line.

The ambush mostly worked. The Greeks sprung the ambush a turn too early so they weren’t really behind the English line yet. It quickly took out one English longbow and allowed the Greeks to quickly close with some other longbowmen. However, the Greeks really didn’t have an answer to the dismounted English men-at-arms. And the English were quickly sending reinforcements down their line to counter the attack such that they threatened to defeat the Greeks in detail. The only answer was to charge in the centre, pinning the English forces in place, hopefully long enough to allow the envelopment. To the surprise of the Greeks, it was possible to find some holes in the main English infantry line. The superior Greek numbers ultimately carried the day, setting up enough flanking opportunities to neutralize and overcome the stronger English infantry.

2) principesromanes (English (Yorkist) 1455-1482 AD) defeats rockmanbob123 (Greek 280-228 BC) 41-0

In the mirror match, the Greeks heavily invested in light foot to defend the hill on their left. Unfortunately for the Greeks, their light foot is mostly javelin armed (including the protected euzonoi) and the English brought longbows. The English spent a lot of arrows on the lights guarding the hill, driving many of them off. That gave the English enough confidence to attack the hill. It was still a difficult struggle, with the English only managing to gain the upper hand by committing far superior numbers. And seeing that weakness, the Greeks charged the centre of the English line (as in the mirror). The crucial differences this time was the presence of a unit of dismounted men-at-arms and a unit of mounted lesser men-at-arms. Those units could hold off the Greek infantry while the longbows peppered it with arrows. The Greek light foot were able to wear down the English line but not fast enough to allow a successful attack by the Greek foot.

Thanks for the game! The terrain made this matchup challenging for both sides.

Mirror match with Huns in congested terrain against the mighty bow armed mass of Nobatae. This time, the Nobatae managed to hold off the warbands with bow fire and then hold them with their raw spear albeit with generals in the front rank. Eventually the bow fire whittled down the Huns and the Nobatae had victory. Good game don, thank you.

Karvon's English drew vs Stew101's Danes. 0-0.

The English took up a strong narrow defensive position between a river and woods expecting a horde of cheap spear and expensive men-at-arms. The Danes dealt with some token scouts, but their attempt to flank through the woods was foiled with some losses and fell back.
