"The Kremlin is in the sights": what saved Moscow from total destruction from the air
Image
But the Luftwaffe command's plan didn't work. By that time, the deployment of the echeloned Moscow air defense zone had already been fully completed. More than 500 air surveillance, warning and communication posts 200-250 kilometers from the city center informed the headquarters in advance of the approach of enemy aircraft, and the fighters had time to intercept. The sky of the capital was protected by more than 600 aircraft, 1,044 anti-aircraft guns, 336 anti-aircraft machine guns, 618 anti-aircraft searchlights and 124 barrage balloons.
Masking was widely used in the city. Trees and roofs were painted on the streets and squares, the golden domes of the Kremlin cathedrals were painted in camouflage tones, the red stars on the Kremlin towers were wrapped in tarpaulins, and contrasting stripes were applied to its walls, giving them the appearance of ordinary residential buildings. Lenin's Mausoleum on Red Square was closed with shields so that from the air it looked like a two-story house. Platforms with models of buildings anchored to the Moskva River were brought out.

On the approaches to the city, eight new RUS-2 radars were operating, scanning the western and southern directions. It was one of these stations on July 21 at 21:00 that reported the approach of a large group of bombers.
"The enemy flew very brazenly that night," recalled Soviet test pilot Mark Gallai, who participated in repelling the raid. - Hitler's bombers went at low altitudes -two, three, four kilometers at most. It was as if they did not even in their thoughts admit the possibility of active resistance on our part. A few days later it turned out that this was the case. The captured pilots from the downed German planes said that, according to their intelligence, with which they were familiarized before departure, they should not have met a serious air defense system and, in particular, organized night fighter aircraft over Moscow."

It's actually not that easy)
In the Finnish army, the battalion was the basic element.
They had a huge number of them, it can be misleading. If you only count the Finnish divisions.
Many battalions were created during the war. They were constantly changing their location. They had a confusing numbering. There could be 3-4 different battalions with one number.
In addition, battalions are difficult to compare directly with Soviet divisions.
Therefore, I would recommend looking at the entire course of hostilities. If you dive into this in detail. There were good books on this topic, but I don't remember now)

Chapter 5. Fake Armies

In historical literature, the Finnish war is described in such a way that one cannot help remembering the feat of 300 Spartans led by Tsar Leonid. Officially, six armies were operating against Finland. Only the number of rifle divisions participating in the battles exceeded fifty. It is widely believed that in the winter war, the Soviet troops who fought at the front had a large numerical advantage over the Finnish troops, and despite this, they still lost the battles. In fact, on the battlefield, as a rule, Finnish troops had numerical superiority, and often, despite this, they could not offer proper resistance. Why did the war get such a distorted description of events? Who benefited from it? And why is there still no proper investigation of the events of the winter war?
