PS. If you're looking for a challenge, check out the Mairie (Town Hall) to the top right... it's one of the two 5pts VP flags...

Nice map - but is there any way that maps can be scrollable? One only gets a partial snapshot via an iPad and in fact after firing up my laptop the same is true.

On iPad -> Press and hold the photo of the map -> Select "Save Image" -> Scrollable/zoomable map will be in your Camera Roll if you open the Photos app

Re: GJS'44 - D-Day - Gold beach not taken
Was doing some historical fact checking... and discovered the Battle of Villers-Bocage...
Apparently it involved a chap called Wittmann...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Villers-Bocage
In favour of the GJS'44 Allies, hunkered down in Vimont/Villers-Bocage, fortunately I & II.Abt of 22.Pzreg, 21.Pzdiv are only armed with PzIVs, not Wittmann's Tigers (some of those arrive with the Hauptsturmführer's actual SS heavy panzer 101.Abt on June 15th
)...
In favour of the Germans, the single 17pdr, two 6pdrs and four piats of each para BG might feel stretched versus upto 16 PzIVs of 22.Pzreg...
June 7th is certainly going to be interesting... Strategies and tactics...?
Before: View from east to west, into the village

After: View from west to east, out of the village (the roadsign to Caen is visible)

Re: GJS'44 - D-Day - Gold beach not taken
Further aerial reconnaisance of Caen and Bayeux...
Historic town of Bayeux

Using a combination of our GJS'44 Strat Map, RAF/USAAF aerial reconnaissance, photos of Caen from the 1940's, and heroic quantities of poetic licence... you've got the Mediaeval fortress on a hill, a working port between the River Orne and the Caen Canal, an affluent suburb by the university, factories and warehouses with a workers suburb nearby, plus plenty of regular French houses scattered throughout the Cathedral district...
From a gameplay perspective, Caen Castle is a very tough nut to crack. You'll need artillery and you'll probably need some armour too... If you can take Caen without using a multifront strategy, then you're a Battle Academy genius!!
But Caen's a major city so there are plenty of ways to skin a cat... There might even be a way to bring your armour across that water too... Don't forget that infantry can run across canal locks...
Players are strongly advised not to use auto move for vehicles... Plot your own routes if you don't want to accidentally expose yourself to an ATG... This is a city that was warned well in advance that the Allies were coming... Junctions are carefully tank-trapped and vital facilities are protected by dragons teeth...
Rush an armoured brigade inside... and be prepared to wish it goodnight...
Regional capital city of Caen

Re: GJS'44 - D-Day - Gold beach not taken
Gents, I'm going to add the following rule on Relief Movements...
4.33 Relief Movements. A friendly BG can relieve a defending force by moving into a defended sector and then permitting the defender to exit. For a relief to be successful, both the entry and the exit movements must be completed before an enemy attacks. If the relief is successful, subsequent attacks will take place as an Attack vs a Fortified Defence (AFD), as if the defender had already been in position. However, if an enemy attacks before the relieving force can enter, the current defender will face an Attack vs Surprised Defence (ASD). If an enemy attacks after the relieving force has entered but before the current defender has departed, the new defender will face a Meeting Engagement (ME).
It's a logical addition that should help both sides over the length of the campaign... However, I'm aware that it could help the Germans more immediately than the Allies, so if anyone finds this contentious, please shout up... If necessary, I'm happy to put it on the Rulebook, but suspend it until June 9th, so that nobody benefits unfairly...
