Match completion, time controls and reserve lists

Post by stockwellpete »

I would just like to bring your attention to the tournament rules about match completion. Rule 3 states,

"Players must register three results in each section they have entered within five weeks (i.e. the halfway stage) of the opening of the tournament or they may be replaced by a player from the reserve list."

The date for that time control is Thursday March 8th. Most players manage this time control quite comfortably, but occasionally there are issues with players who maybe have entered three or more sections and have played 5 or 6 matches in a couple of them but have completed none in the others. So please try and play your matches as evenly as you can across the sections you have entered to avoid getting flagged up at the half-way stage. Players who have entered the Themed Event are asked to prioritise those matches because that section runs on a very strict 11 day turnaround for each round of matches.

It is quite often the case that once the tournament is underway new players indicate that they want to join up. Sometimes a player who has entered only one or two sections will indicate that they would like to play in an extra section. These two groups of players will be offered any vacancies on the reserve lists and they may be added at any time a vacancy occurs (e.g. a player might resign from the league after a couple of weeks) right up to the time control date of March 8th. Only exceptionally will a player be added to the tournament after the time control date.

All that has been written above pre-supposes that all players are actually participating in the tournament and playing their matches. Occasionally, there is a situation where a player does not respond to any challenges and is not playing any matches at all. In these circumstances, where all efforts to contact the player have failed, a player may be removed from the tournament before the time control date and a reserve will be put in their place. This will normally happen around the 2 week mark except for the Themed Event where all players will have to start their matches promptly when the tournament opens. A check by the organisers will be made in the Themed Event so that the schedule is not disrupted and so that everyone gets a chance to play 3 group qualifying matches.

If there are any questions about this, please post them in this thread.

The very kind offer from NikiforosFokas still stands for a really good player to enter the A/B divisions of one of the league sections. If you are in the top 20 of the automated Holiday Tournament and have not yet entered this competition then this would be the ideal place for you.

To the people who are saying that I should have different titles for the challenges and results threads, the answer is that I will have when I open the threads on February 1st. If I do it now then some people will complain that the threads are locked even though it is not February 1st yet. I know this from the FOG1DL. Patience everyone.

Updated 30/1

Yesterday I sent out a welcoming message by PM individually to the 82 players who have registered for the tournament. So far 75 players have opened that PM and that tells me that those players are ready to start on Thursday. There are still 7 PM's to be opened. I expect that number to drop by the time the competition starts, but there will still be some players who have not "signed in", as it were. Players do not have to reply to this PM. I will produce a list of those players so that everyone can take a look to see if there is anyone there that they might know, or they might be playing a friendly game against, so that they can remind them that we are starting.

My initial priority will be to make sure that the Themed Event gets underway as quickly as possible. So far, all 16 players in Pool A have opened their PM and 14 of the 16 players in Pool B have done so. The first round of matches in the Themed Event will allow 14 days for match completion in order to give some extra time for slow starters and to allow me some time to arrange replacements if necessary. After that each round will be allocated 11 days in the Themed Event.

Hi! If you still have a vacant reserve space in the Late Antiquity C_D_E divisions may I claim it?

I would like to have a bit more cover for Pool B of the Themed Event. There are still 3 players in that pool of 16 that have not opened their "Welcome to the FOG2DL" PM and the one player I have as reserve also has not yet picked up their PM. It may be nothing or it may be something, but I do want all the first round matches in the Themed Event underway by the weekend. So I will remove any player who has not started by Sunday evening and replace them with a reserve. So if you think you might like to play in the Themed Event it is still not too late to put your name down as a reserve.

With the other league sections the situation is not nearly so pressing as players have 10 weeks to play their matches at their own pace. If players have not been contactable after about 10 days then I will start to chase them up with a view to replacing them with reserves if we get to about the 2 week mark and we still have had no contact from them.

Sorry if this sounds a bit draconian to some, but obviously I have to put the interests of the vast majority of players foremost in what I do.

You have entered the Late Antiquity section so you will be arranging your own matches at your own speed. There is no timetable for matches in this section. Like a lot of other players (about 50 out of the total of 82) this will be your first season in the FOG Digital League so the best thing to do is keep a regular eye on the two Late Antiquity threads (one will be for posting challenges and the other will be for the winners to post the results in) and copy what the other players are doing. Tomorrow I will post an example of how to challenge an opponent so that all the new players can see how it should be done. It is all very simple and you will quickly get used to it.

I will be posting up details of the first rounds of match-ups in the Themed Event, Classical Indian and From Cyrus to Tigranes sections during the course of the day and will open up all the threads around 6pm (UK time). This is to allow players in Australia and New Zealand to start promptly on February 1st. I think the time difference with the UK is about 12 or 13 hours.

Calling gamercb . . .

Post by stockwellpete »

Updated 9pm 31/1

There are still 6 players who have not opened their "welcome" PM. Four of these players have only entered one section of the tournament and the other two players have entered two sections. So, as a group, these are the more occasional players of FOG2 rather than the hard core group and we have enough cover on the reserve lists should any of them turn out to be non-starters.

One of the players is from Pool B of the Themed Event - gamercb.

If anyone knows him, or maybe you are playing him in a friendly match right now, could you remind him that the tournament is about to start and that he has a PM waiting Hopefully we will hear from him shortly, but if there is no contact by 8pm (GMT) on Sunday 4th February then he will be replaced by a reserve. The other players, who have entered the league sections, have until around February 14 to make contact before I start to replace them with reserves.
