Resigning Battles / Limiting Armies

Post by petergarnett »

Having read the posts from now on if you resign there will be additional losses added to those inflicted by the enemy. This includes resigning on turn one and is in addition to the effect on national morale.

May I also remind you that the shift in morale for a lost/resigned battle is greater than the shift for a battle won. Resigning without a fight is bad for morale (or at least it is now I've added it to my table) - better to stand & fight.

At this point I'm not keen to limit the armies as you've not had a tax phase. Once you see the income you may change your minds on this point. So please lets defer the decision until then.

My apologies to the Parthians - had just seen the new Clash of Titans movie & wanted to interfere in the affairs of the mortals. It's a typo & it's Phanagoria
who is the 3rd invader.

Battles results next :)

From your local reporter:-

'This Panther's Not For Turning'

In a trio of whirlwind battles & skirmishes some invaders/tourists are now having second thoughts about how easy those Pantherites are to whoop.

At Tocantins the Hyperborians fell like nine-pins according to their opponents. Keyth lost 21% of the invading army to p'boys 7%
Meanwhile the counter-invasion saw another major victory for the Pantherites who inflicted 28% losses but with a respectful 13% taken in return

However peace was reached with Gaia Hesperis being ceded to the Empire of the Panthers by Hyperboria.

Whilst at the inappropriately named Funeral Plains it's rumoured that the armies merely threw insults & scones at each other before the forces of Arrakis withdrew leaving the Pantheries to tidy up the picnic tables.

New army roster scrolls are on their way to those concerned.

Down but Not Out

Despite 2 defeats against the invading Romans the Nervii have concluded peace with honour. The land of Geminiacum is conceded to Rome but with other terms to reflect the newly found respect the Romans have for these proud warriors.

The first battle saw both sides take similar losses but at the second the Nervii lost 31% to the Romans 22%.

With 2 areas lost the tribes have found an unexpected ally it is rumoured.

It's War but Not As We Know It

The great powers of Egypt and Morius, after much boasting, each invaded the other, fought 2 epic battles for literally moments, then both went home to reflect upon their future plans. By mutual agreement neither knows what to do next it is said.

Battle of the Wasteland saw egyptian losses of 8% and morbians losses of 15% whilst in the Great Desert both lost 20%.

No territory has changed hands at this point but peace reigns for now!

A Churchillian Affair

On the field of Lubbock the Rhodians met the Texans for battle. Sadly no-one had thought to cut the grass so play was called off. Losses were 1% each (sprained dice rolling hands we believe).

Rumour has it that the next mortal to do this will be struck by lightning (if I can remember where PJ left the bolt).

A Hordes Affair

At an undisclosed location the armies of the Crimea and of Parthia fought a battle. Few details have emerged so far but losses are reported to be 16% and 25% respectively.

Once the dust from these numerious hordes have settled we may have more details. So don't touch that scroll-dial.

A Bloody Affair

A very bloody battle was fought between the armies of Morbius and of Texas on the Great Steppes. Both sides lost around 29% of their forces but in the end it was the Morbians who held the field.

With such equal losses it is doubtful peace could come soon!

Obviously please let me know if I've misread any of your PM's which the above posts are based upon.

New army sizes being calculated now - will PM both sides where war is continuing.

Stop Press - News From the Front

Just in by drum yet more victories for the Pantherites.
Against the forces of Armenia they met the steel clad invaders so if they were tins of cat food inflicting 33% losses. However the armenians inflicted a most respectful 19% - that's a lot of dead cats.

And in their counter invasion of Armenia the Pantherites again did great slaughter with losses of 27% to their own 13%.

Even Tigranes the Great could not accept such losses (plus he's rumoured to now be allergic to cats) and peace was gained again through the ceding of territory - namely Slartybartfast.

So vast be their lands now the pantherites are said to accept in strays.

Oh, am I in the wrong topic? Judging by the other purple prose I've seen here, I assumed this was the right space.

...late one afternoon the senate is ready to adjurn, the official stenographer typing up the last few noted remarks when junior Senator , Abeo Mens Mentis addresses the crowd
"My esteemed fellow Senators, before we conclude I must be heard, for we have not fully addressed the reports of numerous victories of the Panthers over their foes.. Only now we have sent legions into far off sandy lands and reports on how that campaign fares are far and few between. Perhaps we should regard the Panthers in the same light as their foes, a threat that.... **censored*** ***censored***

It is not known what other comments might have been made that day, but the Senate did pass an edict that no longer will stenographers be allowed access to Senatorial debates.

Might I suggest a slight change to the graphical representation, based on some of Peter's comments of how the countries look?

It may be better to think of each country as a circular isle on the doughnut which looks something like...

Image

Each zone would then be coloured according to the owning country, so all the same colour at the start, but changing colour as they are conquered.

I would also suggest the following rules for conquest:
1) An outer zone is conquerable by anyone who themselves has a port (all outer zones are considered ports).
2) An inner zone is only conquerable if you have touching zone, i.e. on of the two outer zones bordering it, or one of the other 2 inner zones.
3) The capital is only conquerable if you, and your allies, control all 3 inner zones - which probably means you control all the outer zones too! This should make it difficult to eliminate a person from the game 8)

Just a thought....

I know that the first casualty in war is normally the truth, but methinks the forces of Morbious did put the brave Texans to the sword (and pike)
