I’m a little happy are uploading tomorrow. Otherwise I’d probably stay up late tonight playing.

It’s funny I was going to suggest that it was a neutral unit causing the crash. But I thought it was more likely an event.

YOU CAN'T CONTINUE MATCHES ALREADY IN PROGRESS AFTER APPLYING THE UPDATE!


Fixes/Changes:

- entrenchment tech defense multiplier raised again by +1 for all entrenchment techs, kudos to Umeu for discovering the source of the entrenchment crashes
- fixed crash bug in Aufmarsch Ost with the help of Wolf
- set Russian steamroller bonus to maximum +10, maximum duration is now 4 turns
- raised chance for Von Francois to unlock
- delayed "Italian Offensive failed" events and lessened the effect of damaging Italian units
- removed both Omsk Army Corps for players
- fixed Austrian Submarines event spawning subs at non-Austrian ports
- invading Austria with Serbian troops earns 3 diplomatic points to Entente
- made Russian "industrial warfare" tech unlock earlier if "Full Russian Mobilization" was played by Entente
- added an elite Russian Army Corps at half strength spawning near Riga if "Stavka Reorganization" (the one that unlocks general Ruszky) got triggered
@Wolf: click on the unit's name ("Army Corps") and you can then rename it to "Latvian Riflemen" 8)

- lowered morale hit to Entente nations after Russian surrender in "Aufmarsch Ost"
- lowered morale hit from surrendering minor allies
- removed "Russian Invasion repelled" and "German Offensive in the East" in "Aufmarsch Ost"
- significantly delayed "Russian Supply Crisis" in "Aufmarsch Ost"
- USA stockpile more production points while still being neutral
- made AI controlled air units less susceptible to ground attacks because AI sends them to the front line too often where they quickly perish otherwise


This new version will allow to create multiplayer challenges with set scenarios and singleplayer matches with re-instated difficulty options.

Difficulty will negatively affect all morale changes and attack modifiers of all player-controlled nations and all alignment changes of neutrals against the interest of the player.
Each level reduces/worsens the outcome by about 10%.

To prevent loss of scenario data in singleplayer mode caused by reloading on turn 1 I've disabled saving the game on turn 1.
You are free to save and reload as much as you like from turn 2 onward though. :wink:

Be sure to read the scenario details by clicking on the "information button" (I did not yet manage to get them displayed by default, so bear with me while I work on it).

Lampe Go Out in Europe is fun. It seemed like CP Easy mode with Bulgaria joining in 1914. Not sure anymore since every neutral country is mad at me expect for Italy because I took Paris in 1914.

No problems with the game crashing. The only problem and it’s because of the AI is it was somewhat passive during the Russian invasion. I’m assuming that’s because the Ottomans declare war early and it’s worried about the border with the Ottomans.

Didn’t have much time to play yesterday. Still no issues with my current game. Ottomans really have it hard entering the war early. U.S is about to declare war on me and probably the Dutch as well.

Once I finish finish Lamps Go Out In Europe I’ll try Before the Leaves fall. After that Lamps Go Out in Europe as rhe Entente. Not sure if it’s possible to keep Serbia in the the war with early Bulgarian mobilization but I’ll try.

managed to finish 1 Home before the Leaves fall. Outcome was inconclusive (since I was testing out only the Western front, and Russia managed to take Krakow, Gumbinnen, Posen & Przemysl, and Serbia took Cattaro) Then I started a Lamps out campaign, but I can't play it out because there's a bug which seems to destroy/steal PP from CP nations (I also encountered this bug in Leaves Fall, but it wasn't so problematic there).

Other bugs

Sending neutrality violated in lamps out causes a crash without a crash line (probably AI neutral spawning again, as it brings Holland into the war immediately)

In before the leaves fall, on t3, if I attack serbian units in AH, it triggers belgian DoW (might be WAD?)

Reloading on t2 and then choosing violations of neutrality on t2 caused a crash

MP takeaways and suggestions


In before leaves fall, scrapping fleet should not be possible or give a huge morale penalty, otherwise it seems to me that AH and Germany should just scrap most if not all of their fleet.

Von Francois should also just unlock on a reserve corps, him not unlocking seems to make steamroller a bit wonky.

german belgium yeilds event should maybe also yield brussels, unless you think it's correct that they can't use railways (which was kinda the main reason to get Belgium to yield)

also the belgium and serbia yield events maybe don't belong in lights out in europe, since everyone is warlike and aggressive

the descriptions of the scenarios are still those of the old game, 1914, 1915 etc.

Also, the name changes with what you have installed, not sure if you can fix that. (so if I have potzblitz 18, it just says v18. If I have v17, it says v17. If I have base game, it names the corresponding base game campaign etc)

tirpitz plan, can it be removed from before the leaves fall? it's not relevant until turn 9, and fleets do even less in this scenario than they do in a long scenario. Also, Tirpitz plan might just need a buff in general, such as boosting German naval tech, giving a discount or reduced build time to warships (not subs), give a experience bonus (maybe too similar to Royal Naval Review), or an experience bonus for newly built naval units (including subs).

lowering upkeep for all navies while in open sea might be considered, lowered by 1 for all ship types. or for light cruisers and battlecruisers especially, this indirectly gives britain and usa a small buff, and germany too albeit smaller. While not really affecting the other nations much

not sure if full Russian mob is good enough, it means the Germany and Austria can send units to other fronts which is a way bigger boon than Russia getting 3 extra army corps + faster industrial warfare. Maybe also needs 1 more army corps in the north as well. also gives Germany more time to stock up Diplo points to bring Russia into the war

raw material department doesn't show up unless Russia is at war it seems (might be WAD, but it's not in the PDF)

Would be cool if spanish flu also reduced the strength of units by 1 point just like serbian typhoid, rather than just efficency.

Russia might still need better starting positions in Ostmars (I can draw a map with suggestions if needed), but other than that, they are probably fine if they get an event that unlocks industrial warfare around turn 8 or 9. Though perhaps, with better starting positions, that's not even needed.

neutrality violated feels like it fits better in the schlieffen plan actually, especially now Netherlands gets properly upset over it and is easy to persuade to join the allies. it should probably extend the attack bonus until turn 4 or 5, since it has been reduced.

DoW on Italy, Romania and Bulgaria should not be allowed, so you can't build up forces and then blitz them 1 turn before they're supposed to join. Alternatively they could get some army corps spawned defensively when war is declared upon them instead of other way around. If it's not possible, I suppose this can be fixed by gentleman's agreement.

fighters are probably still too effective against ground units early on. Maybe reduce fighter base attack against ground units by 1 and then give it back on the last fighter upgrade.

bombers are probably too good vs cities still, should be a bit weaker maybe, though a lil bit stronger than zeppelins. to compensate, perhaps decrease their ammo consumption by 1

zeppelins seem in a good spot, though they became obsolete towards the end of the war, so maybe something like a specific anti zeppelin tech in the Anti Air category? or give them less good upgrades compared to bombers, so they kinda phase out.

yildirim group event was available too early. (mentioned this before, and it might've been fixed already)

ottomans probably need reduced attack when attacking outside of ottoman empire hexes

now that duration of east offensive has been nerfed, and entrenchment increased again, the damage bonus of the offensive can be increased again to what it was or close to that.


good job on the 2 new scenarios, they're refreshing new takes on the game. Especially USA joining early seems like it'll be a big challenge :D

Yup, the "invalid railroad from: Kristiana" is a tell-tale sign he's using vanilla.

The problem is that the scenario info displayed in the PBEM lobby is simply taken directly from the language file of the specific version installed. I expected Slitherine's server to at least store the scenario's title upon creation of the challenge but it's not the case. Bummer!

This means only private Potzblitz challenges are possible now or else you risk luring some unsuspecting fellow into a non-resumable crash.

Better delete all your open challenges now!

Just checked with vanilla and indeed the lobby displays a "scenario not found" when I open a challenge for "Lamps go out" which would be scenario number 6 but the vanilla game has only 5 scenarios.

The scenario has a 13 turn limit to give the Entente player the opportunity to re-capture Paris. The victory calculation segment is still buggy but will be fixed for the next version.

Define "wonky". Also he can spawn on either an Army Corps or a Cavalry Corps both of which are already present near Königsberg from the start. :|

Removed from "Home before..." scenario. For all other scenarios added unlocking of "Centralised Fire Control" tech, reduced naval tech upgrade cost, +75 experience for each German surface fleet.

You mean stockpiling diplo to bring Sweden into the war via "Von Essen Strike"? That event is discarded when playing "Full Russian Mobilization". Raised PP bonus per turn until DOW and resilience to Supply Crisis.

If Netherlands starts pro-CP then the Violation event will not matter much. Else just invade Luxembourg or bite the bullet and try without.

There's already an event for Italy that does exactly what you describe. See no problem with roflstomping Romania/Bulgaria though.

Thanks for reply and quick additions

Some things still require a response:

Von Francois. Wonky in sense that (i might be wrong since this event is a bit hard to gauge and it's not always clear whats bonus and whats just a random big attack) if von francois cant get unlocked, the russian bonus just seems to keep building. Sure, the cavalry and army corps is available, but I think it's possible to destroy the cavalry before the bonus gets too high, and then when the bonus does get high, you can also destroy the army corps. Maybe it's fine and working as designed, but I see AI and other players do things with Russia I can't replicate in MP.

Which event prevents invading italy? Is it new? Because when I played vs wolf in v18, I invaded italy 1 turn before it was going to DoW me, and I took back trento (despite the homeguard), overran udine and killed couple of units. He did the same to me once when Romania was joining me. Though I agree with you it's not as big of a deal for romania and bulgaria as it is for major nations.

As for lowering fleet upkeep, I'm aware its free in lorts. But britain needs to be out a lot to keep the blockade up, which I know is compensated in their pp production, was just thinking if there's a way to make navies in general more impactful, because honestly to me it now seems you should just generally keep them in port (which is what happenes historically anyway, so its not that big of a deal). Especially since usa seems to have gotten a pp buff now (before, their navy crippled them as they sailed across the atlantic)

Yildirim unlocked in early 1916 for me. I don't remember seeing falkenhayn dismissed, but I guess I mustve missed it. Though that was honestly also an early falkenhayn dismissed then

@Umeu, since it is now clear that users who don't have the mod installed can't see your open challenges do in fact require my mod I can only remind you again to remove those open challenges.

You risk more unsuspecting players expecting a vanilla match joining, thereby creating matches that can't be continued because of replay crashes.
Which event prevents invading italy? Is it new? Because when I played vs wolf in v18, I invaded italy 1 turn before it was going to DoW
This event: "THREAT OF WAR WITH ITALY RISES"

It triggers once CP start piling up troops at the Italo-Austrian border over several turns and will rapidly shift Italian alignment toward Entente which might be enough for a sudden instant DOW on CP.

If like in your match vs Wolf you are already in a position ready to attack then of course it won't matter anymore.

well, yeah. I guess it's kinda irrelevant in most (MP) games I think. Nobody will really build up forces there unless Italy is already joining the enemy alliance within a few turns. At which point, triggering the DoW faster might not matter or might not happen fast enough. Especially when it can be combined with a raid on Italian coast, that's such a devastating blow on Italy.

I remember this being an issue even in the base version of the game. So perhaps it's just something that requires gentleman's agreement. But we'll see.

At least you get a -5 alignment hit on all other neutrals for each neutral you attack - except for Belgium.

- for singleplayer matches with raised difficulty levels: each turn 15 PP multiplied by difficulty level (0-3) are removed if player's PP are above 100.

- removed "Ultimatum to Belgium/Serbia" events in "Lamps go out in Europe" scenario

- fixed victory outcome calculation for "Before the Leaves Fall" scenario

- fixed Britain not participating in "Before the Leaves Fall" scenario if "Ultimatum to Belgium" was not played by CP.

- no disbanding of fleets allowed anymore in "Before the Leaves Fall" scenario

- removed "Tirpitz Plan" from "Before the Leaves Fall" scenario

- "Tirpitz Plan" event for CP now unlocks "Centralized Fire Control" tech for Germany, lowers naval tech upkeep costs and raises all German surface naval units experience by +75

- fixed variable Russian DOW delay in case of "Full Russian Mobilization" to actually be more variable

- raised PP bonus per turn and resilience for Russia to "Russian Supply Crisis" if "Full Russian Mobilization" was played

- German general von Francois can also spawn upon a Reserve Corps but will be removed upon "Russian Invasion repelled" event

- if Belgium yields to German ultimatum now also Brussels will come under CP control to allow rail transport

- "free" rail transports caused by "Wilhelm Groener" will raise the chance of hunger events for CP ("there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch") :wink:

- Tanks have raised assault stats, allowing for ploughing through higher entrenchment levels

- Zeppelins have lowered strategic attack stats

- all surface fleets at sea consume less upkeep for all nations

- Russia and Italy can build a maximum of 1 submarine unit

- "Spanish Flu" event outcome made more severe for all nations: more manpower loss and loss of unit strength

- added short scenario descriptions to the multiplayer lobby for players that have the mod installed

- fixed all reported crashes

Finally had time and just sat down to resume my current match and saw there’s an update. Guess I’ll restart my Lamps Go Out In Europe game. Hopefully I won’t lose a German dreadnought this time.

great job on the bug fixes.

The main I noticed while reading the change list (haven't played yet)

- in multiplayer Belgian King Albert automatically unlocks only in "Schlieffen's Legacy" scenario.

I really, really disagree with this. It's just another reason not to go Schlieffen over Moltke. Sure, I know NV is not guaranteed (but you must be quite unlucky not to get it), but if you do, then it's just way superior over Schlieffen. Even the race to the sea not activating in Schlieffen is kinda a nerf, as it's generally the Germans that profit from that. So, if I suggest that if Neutrality Violated is chosen, then Albert should unlock immediately as well (since the reason he doesn't unlock immediately is "element of suprise" and he got caught offguard. Even though imo he should just always be in charge of the army in MP. Just like WIlle should be for Switzerland in Rupprecht btw.)


Really love all the other changes, except the Groener one. I love it, but I'm also gonna hate it XD it's a good change though.

It's situational: if Netherlands is pro-CP, then going "Violations of Neutrality" is a given, else you might risk an early Dutch DOW.
Going Schlieffen does not give you that diplo hit on Netherlands and also does not decrease Dutch Food Reserves to help out in case of CP Hunger events.
