Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
I find it a surprise that I am the first to report the victory issues with Race for Tunis and Kasserine - I have to believe others have played through and encountered the same - but did not report??
Guess I will just have to keep up the Rocky Balboa routine bru!!! LOL

Keep at it, Rocky. Erik needs you guys to ferret stuff out. Some things may pop up only in certain situations which previous players did not encounter. Also, I get the impression that Erik makes changes here and there, after beta testing and CSI have been done already. Those Kasserine errors, for example; I think I would have caught those in my first go-through.tula1959 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 28, 2018 1:26 am I find it a surprise that I am the first to report the victory issues with Race for Tunis and Kasserine - I have to believe others have played through and encountered the same - but did not report??

Thanks for your help, Bruce, as always. All your CSI work to fix the campaigns is highly appreciated - and I'm sure I'm speaking on behalf of all OoB players here

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
My performance was so terrible at Kasserine that I was glad to move on with whatever result.

My pleasure, Gabe. You also deserve credit, as does Horst, Tula, Terminator, and a bunch of other guys.GabeKnight wrote: ↑Sun Oct 28, 2018 6:25 am Thanks for your help, Bruce, as always. Medenine Scenario Terrain Problem!!??
Gave this one a run through last night! As indicated in the briefing one must left hook through the Tebega Gap to outflank the Mareth line and get at the two primary objectives of El Hama and Gabes. However the one hex wide path through the gap is ROUGH DESERT (even tho it does not look like it on the map graphics) and is thus impassable to armor/mech units. Given the large amount of Axis armor deployed around the objectives there is no way my infantry only force that can get through the gap have any chance of making an impression!!!! They were quickly decimated by the Italian armor around El Hama.... I have to believe that this terrain in the Gap is an error and should be regular Desert so that the British armor/mech can get through as part of the flanking move!!???
Re: Medenine Scenario Terrain Problem!!??
The header says Medenine, but it looks like you are talking about Mareth (a different scenario)?tula1959 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 29, 2018 1:12 pm Gave this one a run through last night! Anyway, there's lot of desert terrain on the left side in both maps. Thre are a few blobs of Rough Desert terrain here and there.
Mareth has a one-hex track through the desert, maybe this has confused you?
Medenine
Hey Erik!! I am talking about the scenario that follows Kasserine, which in your list on page 1 says Medeinine, then followed by Mareth… Unless the scenario order has changed since then?
Here is a screenshot of the map - you can see my two armor units sitting at the mouth of the pass (the only one through the mountains) and the first hex in the pass in the rough desert and can not enter....

Medenine:
Aha, indeed. I was checking further west...
I have replaced the Rough Desert with Difficult Terrain.

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Roger that Erik!!! As I near the end of the awesome Desert Rats campaign I look forward to getting moving on the Afrika Korps one!!! You are THE MAN when it comes to custom work!!! Many thanks for all of your great output and it is an honor to apply myself to finding anything I can to help you tune them up!!!
Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
By the way Erik, did you also fix the victory condition snafu in Kasserine I found (see above a few posts back)??
Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Question - when I install the new update (5.
and then return to my in-progress campaign, and restart the scenario (Medenine) does it restart using the older version (ie the in-progress one) or the new one?? Tried to do that just now and map still has the same rough desert blocking the pass..... so I assume it fails to utilize the new version???? I nuked it to move on to the Mareth scenario!
Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Updated scenario files are only loaded on a new start.
Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Thanks Horst - you mean a new start of the whole campaign???? Yikes, not doing that LOL...Has taken forever to work my way through this one and NOT going to start over - some day down the road for sure but not now! Want to get on to Afrika Korps!

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Yes, he did.
Not the whole campaign, just the scenario. In other words, say you finished Kasserine Pass and you had just started (and saved) Medenine. Then you downloaded and copied over a new version of the campaign. Your saved Medenine would be the old version but were you to start Medenine fresh, it would be the new version. You don't have to replay the entire campaign.

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Thanks bru - but I did try that - restarted Medenine AFTER the 5.8 update - but the rough desert was still blocking the way...hmmmmmm???? But will keep this in mind and try again after some future fix when I am in the middle of a scenario!
Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Looks like you did not properly restart Medenin.
I just checked the terrain in the download. Note the two greenies
Open your Medenin save, hit Esc to open Options and select restart.

Re: Desert Rats 1940-42 beta testing
Thanks Erik - that is what I did to try and restart Medenine - but once I was in the map showed the same - gave up and moved on to Mareth - but this raises a question! Is there no way to play an individual scenario from a custom campaign?? I would like to go back and play Medenine through, but see no way to do that - the individual scenarios within a custom campaign do not appear anywhere that I can find like they do from a DLC campaign.....
