I'm sorry to hear that - it's nasty when computers do that, and usually a reminder how reliant we are on them. Good luck getting it all fixed!
Eric - another lame few points for a draw in a game I was never given a chance to win at?! I did win the other forfeited game, as posted. Can I get those points?

Well I can relate to that as my motherboard just went a while ago.

I am making an adjudication already for Daniel and Tom's game. A 6 vs 4 to Daniel/Aristides

He had already been unfortunate in receiving an adjudication from me in the past ( 4 vs 2 for A) and actaully won the game but it was too late.

Thanks to Pete and Chris for an another "Speed" game.

HI I'm resigning my game against Supervark as I have a lot of work commitments between now and next Monday so I wouldn't be able to get many turns out.

Round 5

Post by ericdoman1 »

These 2 games may as well begin as the other games will not change who plays whom.

Round 5

FOW and double moves on, both players choose very open terrain.

10 turns, first player issues the challenge.

The Irish vs the Scots.

Stockwellpete 22 (41) vs Sharkall 21 (34)
Batesmotel 21 (39) vs Tiavals 20 (35)

There are 2 more games to go for round 4

Cytus 12 (23) vs Burinus 12 (16)
Jonno 11 (17) vs Fedem 11 (7)

So far

Stockwellpete 22 (41)
Batesmotel 21 (39)
Sharkall 21 (34)
Tiavals 20 (35)
RexHurley 18 (-17)
Aristides 16 (-14)
Martog 16 (-23)
Iandavidsmith 15 (24)
TGM 15 (-33)
Supervark 15 (-34)
zumHeuriger 14 (-11)
Todd645 13 (-25)
Turk1964 12 (-9)
Cavehobbit 11 (-35)
Cromlechi 11 (27)
Tullius 8 (-46)

Therefore I need the 2 games to finish as y'all can see.

For whats its worth if the game is a non event 4 pts was the decided amount to be given to the " Victor" 6 pts is too much for a non event. Thats only my opinion though

Well having read through comments about slowness etc, I have made a mistake.

Daniel have to stick with what was agreed upon and so you will have a 4 vs 2 win vs Tom. I am afraid you have had a bit of bad luck with your opponents.

Eric, at the end of the tournament will you please review this for next time? I really think a 5-1 result for unplayed matches is better than 4-2. If a player is a "no show", or whatever, then really he has lost and the other chap has won. By giving 5pts you are recognising that the game has not been played to a conclusion in the normal way, but to lose 2pts (getting 4 instead of 6 against a player you maybe feel you could beat) is quite a lot when the points difference between players in the table is so small.

I think that we can already say that this is a very successful format and I hope you will organise further tournaments along these lines in the future.

I agree with Pete on this being a great tournament and things are going along very nicely. It is possible to finish games in the time alloted even if you have to pester other player which i have on 2 occasions. I think my self the only way stop players who are slow to pick up a challange is give them a warning and reminder and if it happens againthats it. Really i agree with Eric 10 turns in a 7-8 day time frame is quite achievable if you are keeen to play.As for whatb points to award thats up to the tournament organiser and once stated thats it. No arguements .

Yep it is a difficult call to make.

I haven't specified a 5 at any time as, you can not make 5 pts in this game using the scoring system, I missed that one:)

Once more this is a different type of game based predominantly around the time involved and limited turns.

Have noticed in other comps when other players have resigned thier opponent will pick up maximum points and a win.

Although resignations are very rare, probably because there is no specific time frame and so if a computer goes kaput or work commitments get in the way, prob after a week you are sorted once more and can continue playing.

This is a prototype comp. When a game has not been finished due to work etc, that game could be played, the score recorded and the points allocated for further rounds.

It is just ironing out any creases. If there is a demand for something similar in the future. I will have to make a number of points. The most important one would be if a person does not play quickly, knows he may have extra work then it is best if he does not take part. The computer is another thing. I have problems with mine as it is old. I know I need a better video card and quite possibly 4 gb of ram, rather than the 2. There is a nearby company who can do a full diagnostic check on it but again it all costs money. I run disk cleanup, disk defrag on a monthly basis now which has certainly improved the performance but it is nearly 5 years old and I do use it quite a lot.

I may well look at an open 450pt tournament. Open as in anybody can play and all books/additions/lists are available. Also a different scoring system or a slight change to this one.

Finally it is a new sort of comp and I will stick with a 4 vs 2 result when one player can not finish, is slow, computer goes boom etc. If there is no feedback from either player it will be a 3 vs 3
