harveylh - Irish 900-1049 AD defeats mr cholo - German 933-1049 AD with Polish 966-1057 AD, 65-32
Mountains and large forests on both flanks along with a difficult terrain river favored the Irish. The Germans managed to fight the battle in the open middle, but the terrain allowed the Irish to put pressure on both flanks. Thanks for the game.

Captainwaltersavage - Portuguese 1200-1319 AD with Berber (Marinid) 1244-1319 AD allies defeats Warg1 - Papal 1200-1319 AD with Italian (Guelf) 1200-1319 AD allies 41:12
Having fought the Papal armies last season I was convinced that bringing lots of knights was the secret to getting in close and charging them into submission with heavily armoured horses. Forgetting that last time I managed to get very lucky and to catch the opposition halfway through a manoeuvre. This time they brought their own contingent of knights and a veritable host of crossbows and skirmishers. My own swarm of horse skirmishers managed to keep them in check this time. My knights were confounded by a stream that split the map between the two armies and the Portugese nobility were reduced to galloping backwards and forwards behind my main battleline trying to find a way to be useful. My crossbows and spearmen managed to disrupt a single unit and rushed in to try and kill it. Whilst backing away with my unit that was itself disrupted. After that it felt like everyone just rushed towards each other and fought it out in the stream that I had been trying to avoid. Units were breaking on both sides and then the knights on both sides became involved and it turns out that having a huge reserve of frustrated knights can be very useful. With a bit of help they broke a lot of units between them, and then the spearmen, and hovering medium and light cavalry, were able to finish the fight. Quite a few Portugese units were bravely retiring at speed or hiding behind their more determined colleagues, trying to pull themselves together, so that I was not sure of victory until the last turn. Great game.
