Kerait (Arab Conquest) defeats devoncop (Khorasanian) 42-16
The mostly unmounted Arabs began the day cowering in a chequerboard of dried-up irrigation channels, offering some illusory protection in an otherwise featureless desert landscape. Intimidated by the Khorasanian horse archers kicking up dust clouds in the open plains around them, the Arabs equipped every archer and slinger they could and prepared for a massacre. They knew that a ditch could not stop arrows - the only answer to the incoming hailstorm was to shoot back and pray.
The Khorasanian horse archers converged on the Arab lines from all sides, no doubt confident in their superior archery and mobility on the sands. Arab bowmen and slingers emerged from the mass of the footmen, and the initial exchange of missiles bloodied both sides. The Arab cavalry, though in few in number, gritted their teeth and met their adversary.
To the surprise of the despairing Arab commander, his men succeeded in striking fear and confusion among some units of the Khorasanian horsemen. Hope renewing him, the commander called a general advance. The Arab spearmen, hardened veterans of many campaigns, surged forward into the open desert. Their aim: to crush the heart of the Khorasanian force, a small core of Iranian and Afghan infantry functioning as the central pivot about which whirled the hordes of Khorasanian horse.
Ultimately, the Arabs prevailed. The battle was hard-fought on the flanks, where the Khorasanian cavalry fought back ferociously, but in the centre, the numerous Arab infantry quickly overwhelmed the Afghan foot. Suffering intolerable casualties, the Khorasanians withdrew. Once again, Transoxiana came under the direct rule of the most pious and righteous Caliphs at Medina.
Good game to devoncop! Pleasure.

Division B
oscarius (Anglo-Irish) beats Warg1 (Papal) 70-40
A tough match with a river running through the centre. My opponent's heavy foot-centric army wasn't fool enough to try and cross it though and with the Papal forces bristling with crossbows (even if in amateur hands) I chose to take the offensive and make good use of my can-opener Irish foot and Ostmen to negate his armour. Entertaining match where my opponent was dangerous to the end.

Divison A
ericdoman1 - Seleucid 166-125 BC with Parthian 250 BC-225 AD allies (1600) defeated Morbio - Carthaginian 235-146 BC with Spanish (Iberian) 300-10 BC allies (1600) 63-38
A bit unfortunate for Ade, as he was fighting a fragmented pike block, a fragmented elephant and a cav unit could have caused mayhem amongst my LF. No rallies and so the score above.
Well played Ade

Pool A Group 1
Aetius39 (Syracusan) defeats devoncop (Carthaginian) 56-23
Both sides lined up in long lines facing each other. The Syracusan left moved quickly up to try and break the right, and after some fumbling managed to create some holes. Slowly but surely the flanks and double teams ground down the stubborn Carthaginians. Credit to devoncop for fighting well, making it tough until the end!^^
