Division C
Captainwaltersavage Achaemenid Persian 553-546 BC defeats lunecastle Median 626-550 BC 43:13
With hills on both flanks and a wide open plain in the centre we both opted to put our cavalry in the centre. The race was on to secure the hills on both flanks. The added firepower of the immortals was decisive in destroying the Median forces before their superior melee units could contact the sparabara units. The cavalry battle was as messy as ever but the Persians managed the breakthrough despite losing some troops in the process. The Persians also won the right flank but only because of a dogged defence by some disrupted and even fragmented medium troops holding against impossible odds. I had all the luck on this one.

Congratulations Eric !
Re: Suggestions for the Themed Event in Season 12 (October 2021)?
Hi Pete.
At Eric Ds suggestion I've posted a couple of theme's we have been discussing recently?
How about 'The Life and Times of Harald Hardrada' ?
1. At 15 he fought in a Norse civil war over the Swedish crown - so 2 Viking lists.
2. On the loosing side he fled to relatives in Kievan Russ and entered service with Yaroslav - so Rus list.
3. In Rus service he fought the Poles, Pechenegs and Byzantines - all have their own lists.
4. He then entered service with the Byzantines in the Varangian Guard - so Byzzies again.
5. In Byzantine service he fought the Pechenegs again, Arabs, Bulgars and Lombard/Normans in the Balkans, Asia Minor, Sicily and Southern Italy - all have their own lists (Syria/Iraq for the Arabs).
6. Returning to Scandinavia he was involved in another civil war over the Danish crown this time - Vikings again.
7. Then as we know in 1066 he invaded Anglo Saxon England.
Had he won at Stamford Bridge he would probably have had to fight William The C's fresh army- so Normans too.
If lives to this point in the theme, perhaps he can take 'one in the eye' too!
And if you include Duke William you might can bring in the French, as the Duchy had to fight off a couple of French invasions during Willliam's reign, before he invaded Saxon England.

Re: Suggestions for the Themed Event in Season 12 (October 2021)?
Hi Pete again.
Or what about The Life and Times of Pompey The Great (a much overlooked Roman in my opinion)?
1. As a young man he fought for Sulla against the Marians in the civil war - so Romans (105 - 25BC).
2. Sulla sent him to N Africa, where he fought more Marians and Numidians - so Numidian and Moorish (341 - 56BC).
3. Sulla also sent him to help fight the Gauls - so Gallic (100 - 50BC).
4. In Spain he fought the Spanish and defeated Sertorius - so the three Spanish lists (300 - 10BC) and Sertorius (80 - 70BC).
5. Returning to Italy he ended the Slave Revolt (sorry Crassus) - so Slave Revolt (73 - 71BC).
6. Next he defeated the Cilician pirates, based in coastal Turkey. No list for them, but I'd suggest Kappadocian (260 BC - 17 AD) sort of fits the bill.
7. He then fought Mithridates of Pontus - so Pontic ( 84 - 47BC ).
8. He then fought the Arabs from Petra - so Arab ( 312BC - 299AD ).
9. Finally of course he fought Caesar a few times - so more Romans (105 - 25BC).

Re: Suggestions for the Themed Event in Season 12 (October 2021)?
Here is a first take on what a "Barbarian Migration" Themed Event might look like . . .
Group stage (choose 3 from 4)
1) Western Huns 376-454 AD v Germanic Horse Tribes 260-492 AD
2) Roman 313-378 AD v Germanic Horse Tribes 260-492 AD with German Foot Tribes 260-492 AD allies
3) Roman 425-492 AD with Germanic Horse Tribes 260-492 AD v Western Huns 376-454 AD with Germanic Horse Tribes 260-492 AD
4) Roman 425-492 AD v Visigoths 419-621 AD
Knock-out stage (official scenarios)
SF1 - Argentoratum 357 AD (Romans v German Foot Tribes with German Horse Tribe allies)
SF2 - Nedao 454 AD (Gepids/Ostrogoths v Huns)
F - Chalons 451 AD (Romans/German Horse Tribes v Western Huns/German Horse Tribes)

We did Vikings in Season 7 so I think we need to go somewhere else for Season 12.Stew101 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 11:07 am Hi Pete.

Re: Suggestions for the Themed Event in Season 12 (October 2021)?
Yes, we haven't had a specifically Roman theme yet, although they have cropped up in a supporting role in a few of the Themed Events. I will have a look at this one.Stew101 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 11:12 am Hi Pete again.

9. Finally of course he fought Caesar a few times - so more Romans (105 - 25BC).

Edit:
This is what I have come with out of this . . .
Group stage
1. Roman 105-25 BC v Gallic 100-50 BC
2. Roman 105-25 BC v Spanish Sertorius 80-70 BC
3. Roman 105-25 BC v Pontic 84-47 BC
KO Stage
SF1 - Chaironeia 86 BC (official scenario - Pontic)
SF2 - Bibracte 58 BC (official scenario - Gallic)
F - Roman 105-25 BC v Roman 105-25 BC (civil war)
It is OK-ish, but not great. The Numidian, Slave Revolt, Arab and Kappadokian armies are not really a match for the Romans and the 2 suitable official scenarios would replicate 2 of the match-ups at the group stage.

Sub-Roman foot don't deal well with warbands and lancers, as they fell more and more gaps appeared around the legio and one turn swept away several units as panic spread leaving the centre of the Soissons line held by one stubborn archer unit against 4 warbands, thanks for the game.
