Delbruck (Arab Bedouin) defeats olddog52 (Byzantine) 73-35.

A close game until the last couple of turns, when numbers overcame quality.

Division E

ilpars (Median) defeated gamercb (Persian) 57-31.

It was much more closer than the result. 1 Persian Immortal unit immediately fragmented in their first clash of spears which slowed down succesfull Persian infantry advance.
Thanks for the game gamercb. It was great fun.

Division D for Determined

Barrold713 (Sword Brethren) defeats ulysisgrunt (Taureg) 44-15

This was a map made for my dudes as much of the battle area was enclosed so even my crossbowmen could melee against the mobs of camel lancers and win. I made use of every projectile I could fling and hit back against any weakened unit. Good game. In a different map I would have been much perforated by that many lancers

Cheers

Division F

ray552 (Galatian 62-25 BC with Roman 105-25 BC allies) defeats Sgt0gre (Indo-Parthian 60 BC-30 AD) 48-17

Swarms of Indo-Parthian light horse archers shot several warbands to pieces before the Galatian/Roman army could get into bad-breath range of the cataphracts, elephants and massed archers.

Thanks for the game.

Re: First Time Control check this Sunday 27/6 . . .

Post by stockwellpete »

OK, I need to go through the divisions and wrap this up now . . .

Classical Antiquity - everyone has passed. :D

Late Antiquity - LindsayCole has failed in Division E, but passes overall as he has had 3 results in the other section he has entered. Also, communicated quickly to say he had 3 LA matches in progress.

Early Middle Ages - everyone has passed. :D

Biblical - klayeckles has failed in Division A and bomber23 has failed in Division E, but both pass overall as they have played more matches than required in the other sections they have entered. Both communicated quickly.

High Middle Ages - Triarii has an exemption from the Time Control as he played in the Themed Event and nyczar has failed the test. nyczar has passed the test in Classical Antiquity and communicated quickly. So he is getting the "benefit of the doubt" this time and I have asked that he issues his own challenges in the early stages of the season in future. I will add something to this general effect in the Player's Guide for next season.

Themed Event - no problems at all. :D

So, overall, it is very good. There are going to be no enforced changes at this stage. The next check is in a fortnight where I require 3 completed matches in each section that you have entered. Thanks for all your replies to my enquiries and I apologise for not being able to respond to them all individually.

Division B

Morat (Visigoths) beat Morbio (Jewish Revolt) 41-14

Massed Visigoth assault on the left got cavalry around the flank and rear of the opposition, while a determined struggle on a low hill to the right saw the Visigoths just hold off their foes to allow the envelopment to work. Felt closer than the score suggests throughout.

Thanks to Morbio for a good game.

Division C

Blagrot - Arab Conquest 638-684 AD beat Rob123 - British 600-1030 AD with Viking 790-899 AD allies 40% - 5%

A forest and a patch of rough ground limited the space the British could approach through and the quality of Arab spears began to tell, once the first British units broke the panic spiralled outwards quickly. Thanks for the game, the terrain was kind to me.

Edited because I can't type or count this morning apparently :D

Division B

devoncop - Bosporan 11 BC-375 AD with Roman 24 BC-196 AD allies beat rexhurley (Dacian 50BC to 88AD) by 60-37

Despite the attempts of the Dacian superior warbands to rescue the situation late on and in which endeavour they were having some success, the Bosporan Cavalry managed to take advantage of a largely clear battlefield (and some handy RNG) to win the day.

Thanks to Rex for a hard fought game.
