Edmund_Blackadder's Bactrians 23/47 49% beat MikeMerchant's Gepids 47/41 100%
Thanks, as always, for the game Mike. Facing an uphill struggle against better armour and better dice and with almost no help from their Gothic ally, the Gepids nearly broke through with a bold mass charge, but those nice little cubes prevented it.
Challenge for neibanlucky still waiting with password neiban.

Two more open challenges up - password 'Bactria'. By my reckoning I have played or am playing everyone except:
klayeckles, payalag, emilianojimenez, epos, Nakedcelt & Sirlancealot
Please feel free to accept. To keep it simple, I'm using the same army against all.

Well you are only meant to be using one army anyway. payalag has not played any games and emilianojimenez seems to have stopped playing as no results seem to be coming up since the first few games. I'm still waiting for him to start against me.

Against the odds.....IMC's Seleucids 32/54 beat Cunningcairns Sarmations 46/45
A marathon over twenty turns. One of the best games I have ever played. Somehow the pikes managed to stop the cavalry encircling them and presented few rears whilst they advanced and cut off the cavalry retreats until the very last rounds. Thanks Martin!!
I'll pick up any outstanding challenges tonight.

Not sure if I've missed something as it's my first forum competition. I meant that I have been using literally the same units in every battle without making changes. I was under the impression others were changing the units within the same list according to which opponent they are playing. Is this wrong?notjustdon wrote:Well you are only meant to be using one army anyway. payalag has not played any games and emilianojimenez seems to have stopped playing as no results seem to be coming up since the first few games. Allendeuce's Bosporans defeat Neibanlucky's Galatians, Bospoe's 20/47 (43%) to Galatians 54/54 (100%).
Game started scarey, but turned for the Bosporans in time.
Thanks, Neibanlucky!

A well played game, Richard. A tough army for the Gepids to face, but also one that was very well deployed and manoeuvred.Edmund_Blackadder wrote:Edmund_Blackadder's Bactrians 23/47 49% beat MikeMerchant's Gepids 47/41 100%

Re: Special league Tournament
Thank you Ian! You played an excellent game screening your pike from my shooting with skirmishes while at the same time causing shooting casualties to my cavalry. This took its its toll as by the time (17th round?) I eventually found a gap in your line my losses were too high and the surviving elements had taken too many casualties. Your army was a very good balance of pike, skirmishes, medium foot and cavalry all well deployed.IMC wrote:Against the odds.....IMC's Seleucids 32/54 beat Cunningcairns Sarmations 46/45

I have made changes to my lists. This was standard practice in the FOG Digital League and I can't see anything in the rules saying we can't.MikeMarchant wrote:I've used exactly the same units in every battle too.Edmund_Blackadder wrote:Not sure if I've missed something as it's my first forum competition. Yes, certainly within the rules, and during the old FoG Digital League I used to tinker with my army constantly in response to the army I might be facing. The reasons I haven't with this army is partly because there's not very much room for variety with the Gepids and so not much point making changes, and partly because I've been lazy about it and simply choosing the same army each time has been quicker and easier.

Re: Special league Tournament
My impression was that we all picked a 600pt army and you stuck with it all the way through with no changes. Nothing was said that changes could be made depending upon the army being played against and so I didn't. Could Okie clarify the situation please as I feel some players could have gained a possible advantage by chopping/changing armies to suit who they are facing!

Re: Special league Tournament
I suppose it is odd that this is something that's never mentioned, but it's always done that way. Every competition I've ever seen, whether it's a league, a cup competition or a campaign, has operated in this way. You have an army list (Gepids in my case) and you have to play that army list in the competition, but the make-up of that army, specifically which units you play with in a particular battle, is entirely up to you to choose, so long as they come from the army list you've chosen or been allocated. No-one's been taking advantage, it's just perfectly normal behaviour to vary your army depending on the opponent you're playing, and people will have assumed this is the same in this case as in any other.notjustdon wrote:My impression was that we all picked a 600pt army and you stuck with it all the way through with no changes. Really sorry if you didn't know this, Notjustdon, but if no-one thought to tell you, you couldn't have known.

Ah, yes, but assuming doesn't make it correct! Will have to ask the question in future tournaments just to make it watertight.
Thanks anyway for your reply.

Re: Special league Tournament
NikiforosFokas' Romans wins against Edmund_Blackadder Graeco-Bactrian (77% vs 100%). A match than Richard was close to victory even if the bad terrain was against his cavarly-based army. Thanks for the nice game!!!
For Byzantium!!
