Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
Right, that game was a mistake but now we're playing the right one, polish-turkish. But there's one more game left between you and me. Wich was your proposal? Excuse me if you have already posted it, but there are many games and it's easy to get lost.ggarynorman wrote:Dortmund I take Polish PW= dor1 You also set up challenge in my name Turks re Catholic league which we should ignore

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
Some have pointed out that we should consider posting challenges through PM (Private Message) as well as on the thread.
Does everyone monitor their PM inbox?
Are those that need help with this?

Any pod 3 challenges forthcoming for me?
I think I have only received 2 so far and I am anxious to lose some more games.

Don't forget you also have to issue challenges to everyone in the Pod.shawkhan2 wrote:Any pod 3 challenges forthcoming for me?

Susji, I think it's your time to propose challenge
Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
Actually, I have already challenged everyone in my pod, although perhaps I have not received answers from everyone.
I have already lost to you, Richard, so time to lose to some more people.
I do admit to getting confused by the large number of pages this thread has already made. Perhaps others are confused as well?

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
OK -- everyone try using PM to set up your challenges.
Go public if you don't hear something within a day or two.
That will reduce common on this thread.
I'll set up three sub-threads during Phase II for challenges -- just bear with this for now and use PM to the extent you can.

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
Will wonders never cease. I actually won a battle.
Shawkhan's Scots Covenanters 20%, Dortmund's Royalists 49%
This battle was dominated by the enclosed terrain. Rough terrain and woods hemmed-in Dortmund's cavalry, allowing him no room for maneuver.
My infantry out-numbered his and eventually bludgeoned their way to victory as they could not be out-flanked.
I am facing the exact same situation in a game as the Poles. The enemy army could cover the entire battlefield, preventing any chance for maneuver.

Pod 1 Result
guillaume New Model Army 1646-60 (41%) won vs. flatsix518 Royalist 1645-48 (58%)
First time I've seen the "nightfall" message. This battle was quite a scrapper. I was trying to gain positional advantage with my cavaliers, but my maneuvers were clumsy. Guillaume was very precise and controlled in his tactics and thwarted me at every point. I felt I was fighting uphill all the way and didn't expect it to even be this close.

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
The Turns setting must have inadvertently been changed to 28 or more, which results in default nightfall on turn 28. This is not intended and the issue will be solved in the next update.flatsix518 wrote:First time I've seen the "nightfall" message.

Well here is a challenge for you, whenever you are ready. French 1643-1648 vs Polish 1633-1648.

Pod 2 result:
Cavehobbit (Ottoman Turkish 1618-1629) 24% won vs Rumguff (Imperial 1619-1632) 52%
The Imperial heavier cavalry quickly advanced and succeeded in breaking some musketeer units before the Turks could take control of the situation. Thanks for a good game!

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
Pod 3 result:
Dortmund (Bohemian revolt 1618-1619) won vs Tiopepe2 (German catholic 1618).
It was a very exciting game with two separate agrupations: infantry and cavalry. The decisive point was when a catholic tercio, infected by the break of a neighboring kurassier unit, losed morale and later broked, leaving the catholic infantry line in disadvantage. The bohemians lost finally the cavalry duel, but it was too late.

You did it very well! The scots have plenty of infantry but almost no cavalry. The royalists have less infantry and bad equipped (less muskets) but some units (the cornish) have better close combat abilities... so I tried to win in the close combat clash, leaving my cavalry units behind to charge when they could. But it was a disastrous plan. Congratulations, well done, John!Shawkhan wrote:Will wonders never cease. I actually won a battle.
