Hail Ericus,

Please hide the wine. You know our troops sometimes are eager too fight and do not like the "waiting". Although they know the punishment for getting asleep at their post during guard duty it's highly recommended to keep their senses sharp and avoid surprise attacks.

Be safe.

Salut Federicus. :)

Hail Federicus

Not much wine to hide really as I allowed our troops to have some before the battle. Of course a small amount mixed in with some water and sugar.

A small amoun of alcohol before battles is good in my opinion, relaxes you a little not too much but does help. Generally I would supply my troops 1 part wine and 7 parts of water in their drinks and that would be just the one drink.

They would have their water bags, some nuts and dried fruit (depending on the country) with of course some bread and red meat.

Well I have thrown my notes away in disgust

It is a very different army to the one I was anticipating.

They also have Armenians as allies. Where did this come from. Why was I not informed about a rogue Armenian prince.

If I had known I would have most certainly brought a herd of elephants.

I most certainly wouldn't have tried to find an open battlefield. The obvious choice when you are expecting a lot of MF.

I would have also waited and not moved at all. I have lost some men already due to this. It has aslo been reported that one of my favourite horses may have perished, poor Trigger

I will require an immediate document from whoever has some authorit in our spy network. This misinformatin has cost e a couple of hundred men already and Trigger

Well it seems chivalry is not dead.

TJD will offer me a draw which I will accept. Not very happy about that guys. You build an army expecting to face your Early Pontic force, you choose very open for terrain and then something different appears. Generally are we told what we will be facing. For example Kush is a 28th-30th dynasty army. Do we know if they will have allies in this game or can have allies?

Good news from Bithynia. Pro-Praetor Federicus and the galant men of Legion III encountered a large Pontic Army supported by Armenians scum. After a bloody battle were our brave cohorts had to charge uphill against the HF enemy to engage them before the arrival of the Armenian Cataphracts and Sarmatian Lancers we were able to defeat them. We succeded about not confrontig the dangerous and well trained cavalry of the enemy on open plains.
We were able to make some prisoners that are ready for the slave market. Not sure about Tribunus Tiavals prices though. Going to check the prices here in the East :).
As the victory was very costly on terms of men we request some reinforcements in order to be combat effective again. Right now we are not in conditions of offensive operations. The men are leaking their wounds.

We still do not have news about our Commander in Chief ProrConsul Ericus at the Command of Legion V and our fellows Legatus BurinusAgricolae and Legatus RexHurley commanders of Legions VII and VIII. Let's hope they are doing well.

With nothing else to report we salute the Senate and the brave people of Rome.

Pro-Praetor Federicus. Commander of Legion III - Bithynia.
Hail Ericus,

Damn apparently the raider I sent you with this dispatch was intercepted by a scout party of Pontics.....:)

Survive to fight another day then.

Hard to tell from your last post, Eric, if you're unhappy or just whimsical. Fortuantely your in-game comments have made your sentiments quite a bit plainer. You feel you've been unfairly handled. So I will go ahead and resign the game. If I've made a mistake and used the wrong Pontic army against you, I've made the same mistake against several others, and I owe a general apology.

Thanks Tim

Yes I have difficulty in being a bit too serious on ocassions, hence the whimsy.

But your above post is correct.

SPQR

Gentlemen,

I appologize for not pointing out, the military reform for Rome, will give the foes the opportunity to adjust their armies in return.
In fact they are restricted now to 400 pts, 3 leaders ( fixed) and a max. of 8 Heavy cavalry / Cataphracts.

It´s not easy to run a tournament of this complexity, consumes most of my leisure time.
Some misunderstandings will occur.

However, I´ve designed this tournament to give everybody the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of the late Republic.
Definetely it wasn´t intended to disappoint anybody !

As we are in 80 BC, with the 1st and 2nd Mithridatic Wars already finished, a late Pontic army is appropriate.

Cheers, Klaus

BurinusAgricolae and RexHurley:

As you may have read on the boards, Eric felt he was misinformed of the Pontic army he was to face, and that our match was therefore unfair. If you gentlemen feel you have been similarly surprised and disadvantaged, let me know and we'll work it out. Our games are still in the early moves and little will be lost by dropping them. I spoke to Klaus (Demetrios) about this question and he felt the army I used against Eric was correct.Fedem made no complaint and we've already concluded our match.

Thanks, guys.

Best,

Tim

Hi Klaus and Tim

OK feeling a little bit embarassed now.

I had noticed the date 80BC. before I even started playing the game.

It didn't occur to me to check out the difference in dates between Pontic early and Pontic Late

I just had a look at the COTR Pontic army and then expected it to be early

As for time yep I can empathise. Playing in 4 other comps, inc this one, runninng one of those and running another competition.

My private message boxes are filling up very quickly

Hmm our estemmed Proconsul with his inflated ego got a little over carried away i believe, what wan't it only last week he was proclaiming his spies had "peeked" at all the lists thus giving him an advantage but now the willy Pontic has come with something new and he blows his little trumpet crying unfair ..... well i do believe life and war is unfair and maybe our little Procounsul got a little overconfident and paid for it....and the rest of us for following his advice

Onwards to victory or death, let the good times roll and Pontic blood flow

Rex

You have a point sir and thanks for making me feel even more embarassed :)

But I take offence that you suggest I have an inflated ego. I may be a babe magnet (although the money helps), a genius on the battlefield (especially against poor generals), an intellect that would put both Aristotle and Socrates to shame and when I die I would expect the Gods themselves to offer me a demigodship. No good sir I am just being sarcastic. I am just your honest soldier who likes his wine (beer now as well), a good fight and a young maiden or three.

This is the most interesting and lively tournament I've participated in so far. Maybe its because of the role-playing aspect of it, but regardless who wins, I think they should be deified. Then we can have a tournament battling the gods. :D

Deification should be the 'laurel wreath', absolutely :)

Newsflash from Hispania Ulterior - all is in the balance as battle rages across two hills... all is in flux as the mighty seem weak, and the weak seem mighty...

Both Early and Late Pontic can have Armenians with Cats as allies. I assume they would bring them as I didnt read anywere that enemies of Rome couldn't bring allies.

I only knew Romans couldn't :/
