Division B
Nijis (Hungarians) defeats Challenge1 (German Imperial) 62-36.
The Germans deployed a flexible formation in which spears and knights provided protection for the deadly crossbows, and at first the attacking Hungarian horsemen sustained grievous losses. But there were a lot of horsemen, and as the battlefield became more chaotic they were able to isolate and flank some of their opponents. A very tough battle.
I'm done for this season. Thanks Pete!

Triarii - Kingdom of Soissons 461-486 AD with Germanic Foot Tribe 260-599 AD allies (1600) defeats GDod - Byzantine 551 AD-578 AD (1600) 51-26
A tough battle with a toe to toe slugfest in the centre between two pieces of rough ground and a tough fight on the Roman left which eventually went the Roman way.
Great game.

Division B
edb1815 (Breton) defeated paulmcneil (Germanic Horse Tribes) 44%-18%
A mass of Germanic skirmishers overwhelmed the Breton left flank and with the Warbands threw back the Breton medium foot. Then the warbands got caught up in woods fighting and fighting on a difficult ridge. On the other flank the Germanic cavalry attacked the Romano-British infantry on a hill and were in turn flanked by Breton cavalry coming out of a wood. Having extra Breton foot helped now as they advanced in the center and fell on the flank of the warbands. Fortunately the left flank held long enough. Well played by my opponent. Fun game.

Division B
Triarii - Teutonic 1226-1319 AD with Polish 1200-1319 AD allies draws with schmolywar - Bohemian 1200-1319 AD with Hungarian 1200-1319 AD allies 46-35
The initial deployment gave the Bohemians a headache as massed Teutonic x-bows were able to reach a steep hill and rather than come up it the Bohemians fell back.
The Teutonic knights initially massed on one wing advanced and then moved across the front of the massed x-bows to attack the weaker Bohemian flank.
Initial Teutonic success and was met with canny Bohemian defence in depth and just as there was a possible advantage opening for the Tuetons once again night fell. A great game and thanks to Schmolywar.

Re: TomoeGozen has won Late Antiquity Division E!
Congrats, Dave! Now take ALL credit: it's after all YOU who managed the army.TomoeGozen wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 2:06 pmThanks
I'd like to take all the credit but I do feel that the Sassanid list is a rather tasty one...
I look forward to our next game.(with less annoying light chariots...!)

Division C
Ironclad (Mongol) defeated Najanaja (Danish/Baltic Tribes) 55-27
The battlefield with its extensive hills and woods appealed to neither side and the Mongols opted for a defensive battle. Their main position was a large rough hill with difficult slopes and small side woods. This was subject to heavy infantry assaults but much to my surprise the defending Mongol cavalry not only held their own fighting down the slopes but finally overwhelmed their attackers. Combined with successful hit and run tactics elsewhere (and a few failures!) the Mongols emerged victorious. Thanks to Najanaja for a good game.
