I sent a PM but he has not responded. I will wait until tomorrow and try again. He has been very active in the past, so maybe just very busy.

Guys, sorry, have been moving house since Monday (second time this year), have been offline and super-busy. I much perfer a large battle--I think that is my only decision?
Also, I've set this forum to alert me when there are posts in this thread, but that feature does not seem to be working...anyone else having a problem with this?

You also need to specify who you are invading. Then Guido will set up battle.

The choice must also be a neutral minor state that is not already in conflict this turn. Such as Sparta or Thrace. Minor states have a gold outline on the map.

Re: Hellenistic Campaign circa 280 B.C.
The Ptolemaic army has achieved a Pyrrhic victory vs the Pontics. (53% to 60%)
The Ptolemaic phalanx wiped out all of the Pontics' heavy units, while all of the Ptolemaic support troops were wiped out by the innumerable Pontic Medium Foot. (Did the Pontics have any cavalry? If so I don't recall seeing them - perhaps wise given the nature of the terrain - mountains on one side, sea on the other, with rough hills in between except for a narrow coastal strip).

The only horse was the one unit of required heavy cavalry and one unit of required light horse.

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Re: Hellenistic Campaign circa 280 B.C.
The Carthaginian invasion of Campania was beaten back, 65% to 53%, in a tense scramble over a series of rocky hills. The Carthaginians' initial push was ill-timed and they found themselves fighting uphill against the Campanian center. Although they did well on the left, their forces were too depleted when their right inevitably gave way and the Italian forces surged through.

Re: Hellenistic Campaign circa 280 B.C.
Natural Disasters and Other Uncontrollable Events as declared by Zeus, ruler of the Olympians.
Twice each turn or once a year, there will be a chance of incurring a natural disaster or having a restless populace. Each Major Power will be assigned an Italian city lottery, as follows:
1. Epirus – Firenze
2. Rome – Roma
3. Macedon – Milano
4. Gauls – Napoli
5. Carthage – Palermo
6. Seleucids – Genova
7. Ptolemaic – Torino
8. Antigonus – Venezia
Each lottery has five balls. The numbers on each ball will determine a result, a calamity or no harm.
1-20 - No harm
21-30 - Famine – costing 200T
31-40 - Earthquake – costing 100T
41-45 - Volcano Eruption – costing 100T
46-50 - Restless underclass – costing 100T
51-60 - Pirates or bandits disrupting trade – costing 100T
Over 60 - No harm
There could be multiple events causing harm each year. If there are 2 or more natural events of the same type, only the power with the highest number in the category will be inflicted. Restless underclass will count in each case.
We will use the Lotto from tonight, 12 May to determine the result for this year, 273 B.C.

It is slowly progressing but probably in 5 or 6 days it should be over ... (tha phalanxes have lost a lot of times in trying to avoid some marshes in front of the Spartan line)

Re: Hellenistic Campaign circa 280 B.C.
A messenger from Laconia has reported that the Antigonid invasion has been repulsed by the valiant Spartan army that stood his ground against all odds.
In a first phase played on the right wing skirmishers and levy spearmen were able to disorganize the Antigonid heavy cavalry while the phalanx slowly advanced in the center harassed by javelinmen hidden in marshes and rough terrain.
Then a timely counterattack on the left wing put in flight some medium infantry units, leaving the flanks and rear of the central pikes open to deadly attacks while already faced by veteran hoplites on their front.
At the end of the slaughter the Spartans finally managed to beat back the Antigonids 46% to 7%, preserving their freedom!

Re: Hellenistic Campaign circa 280 B.C.
Client States as of end of 273 B.C.
In 279 B.C., Macedon won a decisive victory over the Aetolian League and it became a client state of Macedon. If Macedon continues to control the Aetolian League until the end of 270 B.C., it will become a province of Macedon.
In 279 B.C., Carthage won a decisive victory over Syracuse and it became a client state of Carthage. If Carthage continues to control Syracuse until the end of 270 B.C., it will become a province of Carthage.
In 278 B.C., Macedon won a decisive victory over the Achaean League and it became a client state of Macedon. If Macedon continues to control the Achaean League until the end of 269 B.C., it will become a province of Macedon.
In 277 B.C., Ptolemaic Empire won a decisive victory over Bithynia and it became a client state of Ptolemy. If Ptolemy continues to control Bithynia until the end of 268 B.C., it will become a province of Ptolemaic Empire.
In 276 B.C., Carthage won a victory over the Bruttians. The Bruttians were already in a weakened state due to a prior (non-decisive) loss to Carthage. Thus they capitulated and became a client state of Carthage. The Bruttians will become a province of Carthage if Carthage continues to control the area until the end of 267 B.C.
In 274 B.C., Gauls won a decisive victory over the Iberians and Iberians became a client state. The Iberians will become a province of the Gauls, if the Gauls continue to control them until the end of 263 B.C.
In 273 B.C., Seleucids had a draw with Atropatene that resulted in ravaging by the Seleucids. As Atropatene was in a weakened state, it capitulated and became a client state of the Seleucids. Atropatene will become a province If the Seleucids continue to control it until the end of 262 B.C.
In 273 B.C., Ptolemaic Empire won a battle against Pontus, which was in a weakened state. Pontus is now a client state and will become a province of Ptolemaics continue to control it until the end of 262 B.C.
Weakened Minor Powers:
Campania remains in a "weakened state" due to a previous lost battle against Rome in 276 B.C. It will remain weakened until 268 B.C., unless it loses any other kind of battle to a major power or suffers ravaging, in which case they will become a client state of that power.

"To put movement sequence as simply as possible, there will be 2 pools of players, those that chose their last move and those that did not. Those that did not choose in the last movement sequence will be in the pool that can choose in the next movement sequence."
The Italian city lotto is used for this. Tonight's lotto for 29 May will be used for 272 BC:
1. Epirus – Firenze - will be active
2. Rome – Roma - will be active
3. Macedon – Milano - will be active
4. Gauls – Napoli - will be active
5. Carthage – Palermo - will respond
6. Seleucids – Genova - will respond
7. Ptolemaic – Torino - will respond
8. Antigonus – Venezia - will be respond
The order of active movers will be based on the lowest number received on a ball. The responders will be in order of the highest number received on a ball, with highest number responding to lowest number. If there is a tie, the next lowest/highest ball will be used. The lottery will be tonight and I will update tomorrow.
