Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
For the greater good of my commanders.
I am going to sacrifice 6 no 5 no 3 of my Carthage vintage wine "True Ambrosia" bottles.
This is for Rome and for victory.
Excuse me for a moment as I just go and cry a bit

You have been put out to pasture, lost your estate, esteem and everything but life....perhaps you may also wish to forfeit that to....Turk1964 wrote:Battle Training report

In a hard fought battle which swayed back and forth all day Legatus Turk emerged victorious. All be it only just the crafty old general tried his many tricks but tthe dice did not favour him this day. I see Legatus Turk is now a Senator what trickery is this? The command of the VII has gone to Legatus Burinius during the night. What has Rome in store for me ?
Senator Turk
Unless of course you reach into what is left of your purse and put on some games for us all, about time the Citizens of Rome had something to laugh about

To Legatus Rexhurley
Your vile mouth will land you in trouble you toad! It would be a shame if all your lands and possesions would suddenly be awarded to me. Whilst you are away dealing with the Pontic filth be carefull of your back ,for i have heard you are not popular with your men. It is rumoured there is a price on your head and assasins ready them selves as we speak. Remember your place .You speak of games bring back slaves from the battle field and we shall see what you can muster to beat the Gladiators of The House of Turk.

Turk when you say "Pontic filth". Do you mean they aren't very hygenic. If that is the case may not bring any wine back.
yes still off the wine. It's been 2 or 3 days now. By the gods that's a record
Well my final training session is over
Ericus 19/30 (COTR Romans) vs Tullius 41/37 (Bithynian Romans)
A good battle.
I am ready for the Pontics now
Again TJD password = forrome

Re: Second training game
Just for the official scoresheet, I was using Klaus' premade COTR Bithynians. Which show up as Roman on the army display. Perhaps Proconsul Ericus was engrossed celebrating the victory of the mighty Silures over the enemy Gauls. Coming on top of their victories over the Romans, the Caledonians, the Hibernians and the hideous Catelluvanii, thus completing what is known as the "Slammus Magnificus".ericdoman1 wrote:
Then Tullius, I was led to believe he would be using one of the Barbarian forces as I had stated. Yet he appears on the battlefield with a Roman army and one he has customized. Excellent, shows cunning, knowing how to bend the rules and to ignore orders from a senior commander. Brings back memories of my youth.

Hail Tullius, Man of Metal
Yes a good converssation about our war wounds. I thnk you won hands down on that.
I may be off the wine but consumed a few pints (a clay mug, conically shaped and quite plain, drinking vessel, a new fangled idea but a bloody good one) of a hoppy, malty, drink, called Beer (very strange name). Although I noticed that various other members, had patterns and other intricate markings on theirs. Many songs were sung and numerous games were played. Before during and after the final game. Not as strong or as potent as my lovely lovely wines but a man's drink if ever there was one.
I have been informed that it is quite a long journey to Ponticus so will have to bring another 10 casks of this beer. A number of these pint mugs and 3 additional young virgins from the nearby Athena temple.
Which reminds me TGM could I have that ointment returned please.

BurinusAgricolae and his mobs have been defeated by the gangs of Tiavals. No evidence of wrongdoing was found and Tiavals escaped legal trouble and prosecution.

Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
Tiavals how did you get away with that. You are doing something illegal at those markets i think it requires more investigation. I fancy a new market myself
Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
How do you propose I am involved with those completely legal slave markets? Preposterous!
Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
Senate and people of Rome:
Good news from Bithynia. Pro-Praetor Federicus and the galant men of Legion III encountered a large Pontic Army supported by Armenians scum. After a bloody battle were our brave cohorts had to charge uphill against the HF enemy to engage them before the arrival of the Armenian Cataphracts and Sarmatian Lancers we were able to defeat them. We succeded about not confrontig the dangerous and well trained cavalry of the enemy on open plains.
We were able to make some prisoners that are ready for the slave market. Not sure about Tribunus Tiavals prices though. Going to check the prices here in the East
.
As the victory was very costly on terms of men we request some reinforcements in order to be combat effective again. Right now we are not in conditions of offensive operations. The men are leaking their wounds.
We still do not have news about our Commander in Chief ProrConsul Ericus at the Command of Legion V and our fellows Legatus BurinusAgricolae and Legatus RexHurley commanders of Legions VII and VIII. Let's hope they are doing well.
With nothing else to report we salute the Senate and the brave people of Rome.
Pro-Praetor Federicus. Commander of Legion III - Bithynia.

Re: CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC TOURNAMENT / Roman Senate
Hail fellow Romans
My battle has begun against the Pontics
It seems information I had about the Pontics may have been slightly incorrect.
Looking at my notes, I would have thought that they would have some pikemen but it does not seem the case.
These wide open plains though are not to my taste, as it allows our enemy with larger cavalry forces to have a certain advantage. Do we then sit back and wait. Our logistic lines are very good so that would be no problem but patience would certainly have to be a virtue.
He has spread his forces across the plains. On one side some troops impersonating our gallant legions. A small area of brush, woods and what seems like quite a nice lake (note maybe good fishing?), he has some hillmen occupying this, over the other side are some of the Gallic warriors and then more plains where his armoured cavalry including some lancers are advancing.
Had a wonderful meal on the the way. My chef, who likes to experiment, decided to marinade some of the beef we had with my beer. At first I was not impressed. However he made a delicious "Beer Beef Pie". I have asked one of my scribes to prepare a copyright contract on this. The chef will ceratinly wish to offer this to the public of Rome.
Anyway back to the battle and I may well have to fall back and wait for these Pontics to advance, rather than being outflanked again.

I don't understand "copyright", but I do understand "Beer Beef Pie". Making the recipe freely available would greatly help the morale of our troops throughout the Republic.ericdoman1 wrote:

Hail Kilroy
Agreed
My chef is a Gallic chap and has prepared some wonderful meals for me over the years.
I forgot to mention that he seemed to be having one of those Eureka days. He looked at me and said cock o van (some bloody gallic mumbo jumbo lingo). I though he was insulting me. I was ready to give him a good thrashing when he said marinading chicken in some wine. Unfortuantely no chicken on board but if the beer worked with beef. Who knows chicken may work with wine.
Yes men always fight better after a good meal and I think these ideas shoule be practiced.
