I would recommend "Pride of Carthage" by David Durham. He also has a book about the Spartacus rebellion.

From the last one I read "Beowulf" and really liked it, emotional and intriguing.

Giving this topic a bump.

I've enjoyed many of De Camp's books.

This year I read several of Ben Kane's series and generally liked them.

I just finished Christian Cameron's 6 book Long War epic, and really liked it. I'm starting his Tyrant series next.

These days virtually all of my reading is via ebooks.
