Could you play some of the difficult and/or famous historical battles?
At the moment I'm at a loss how to tackle the battle of Chaldiran (by Paul59)

I rather enjoy Pike and Shot's ZoC and Priority Charge systems, along with its increased pursuit systems for making it harder to trap your opponent with ZoCs, and to predict exactly what is going to happen geometrically. I did defeat pantherboy in a mirror a year or two back, but considering that he almost always beats me in FoGII, I think that was just a function of me having spent more time playing Pike and Shot than he has.GentlemanRanker wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 9:31 am To help me improve at Pike & Shot and Sengoku Jidai, find that I have enrolled at OUS (Online University of SnuggleBunny). Watching a match on YouTube, then setting up a hot seat game using the same forces, is a good way to get to grips with some of the more elusive aspects of the gameplay.
I suspect that these STUB engine games, with their reactive mechanics, are more difficult to master than FoGII, as players have much less direct control of their forces. It would be interesting to discover how a top FOGII player, such as Ludendorf or Nosy_Rat, would approach these games.
I have found useful pointers to aid my understanding of the interaction between ZOC and the priority charge target rules, dealing with unfavourable POA matchups, and the importance of using terrain to control the battle. I still have a great deal to learn, so please keep up the good work!

Do you mean in SP? I don't play SP anymore (except when we beta test new FoGII DLCs), though I believe I have played Chaldiran in MP. I won't be recording SP footage but if you like I can take a look at the field and proffer advice.

Yes I meant SP. Playing against AI grows stale after a while so I understand. But I still like the puzzle-solving fun of premade battles.SnuggleBunnies wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 2:19 am Do you mean in SP? And please do give some advice on Chaldiran. It looks awfully easy for Ottomans with all the light cav advantage and cannons that can kill a superior cav or two before contact. FYI I'm playing the SP version that puts player on Safavid side.

+1. I agree with youSnuggleBunnies wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 2:19 am I rather enjoy Pike and Shot's ZoC and Priority Charge systems, along with its increased pursuit systems for making it harder to trap your opponent with ZoCs, and to predict exactly what is going to happen geometrically.

I for one would add to this list the fact that woods, rough terrain, even lakes are quite often in the middle of the map, which encourages tactics with LF/dragoons, bypassing by cavalry, ambushes, etc. (ie tactics different from the 'linear' one).

My mistake I have not played this scenario. It looks quite tough. I think there are two viable options -companion wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 9:38 amYes I meant SP. 1) try to close into melee with your non-light cavalry as rapidly as possible to minimize the casualties from arrow/cannon fire
2) accept that you will suffer some losses from cannon fire and try to shift some of your infantry archers to the flanks to support your cavalry with missile fire
I kind of incline towards the latter option.
