It's interesting to see how long you can keep a unit going before you have to upgrade. Goose2 had a panzer 1b well into his double Rommel, and on a much easier setting I once kept Rondorf in a 4* Panzer 2G into 44 East before a lack of fuel at the wrong time ended that experiment
The real pressure was in Africa Corps at Double Rommel, as each upgrade and new purchase was agonizingly deliberated over. There was some real experiments I played with in that playthrough. It was one of the most exciting and enjoyable playthroughs I have ever tried, and something I still reflect on from time to time.

I kept a Pz3H for longer than they had it available for purchase, same for an Italian tank before I choose to upgrade to the better tanks needed.
