You'll be leaving starting the game til awfully late if you wait for stragglers. For starters you've got to hope SOMEONE 'outflanks' in the first round THEN they have to roll to successfully come onto the table and THEN you've got to hope for stragglers.

Personally, I think you're limiting your options :)

This was a great event. I'm sure Marc will post all the results soon, but thanks to Marc for doing all the logistics work of running a tournament. He did a fine job.

Thanks to Jim and Chuck for playing 25s in the doubles making that possible!

I'll second that. I had a great time at Cold Wars even with our WotR army going 1 win and 2 losses in the doubles.

A thank you to everyone involved.

Just out of curiousity; how long did the rounds last?

Five hours would be shocking indeed.

We played three hour rounds for the 650 point event on Friday, four hour rounds for the 1000 point Doubles on Saturday. If memory serves, most games were completed (i.e. one army broke).

Marc

edit: to correct the point total for the Doubles on Saturday.

I thought Saturday's game was 1000 points?? That combined with doubles made 5
hour rounds sound plausible.

I was obviously mis-informed; I was in another room sinking the Japanese fleet

The Doubles was played at 1000 points using four hour rounds. By my (very) rough estimate significantly more than half the games were completed.

See? You should have been playing FoG. 8)

Nope!

Told you I HATE DOUBLES!!!!

Infact doing doubles cost you our entire groups participation 5-6 players.

Very disappointed we were too; as we had all been looking forward to it.

But we hashed thru this one before

Oh, that's right; I had forgotten. Well, there's always Historicon. The details are not yet set in stone, but there should be a Mini, a Theme, and an Open. No Doubles, so it will be safe for your group to come play. :D Of course, if Matt Iverson is still on the same tear he was on at Cold Wars it will all be about the fight for second place.

The problem with Historicon is that it is only about 2 weeks after Origins so not happening.

Will be playing the Origins tourney for sure. Have to maintain my perfect record from last year

BTW: For those who don't do Origins; last year there were more historical minatures events there than at Cold Wars :D
