Ya. I end up using elephants as anti-cavalry. Then attack the infantry from the flanks after the cavalry has been taken care of.

so far , at least in multiplayer my conclusion is that there is no correct tactic. it all depends on your mood, opponents mood ,terrain and the rest of your and his army composition

even basics like ''dont charge elephants with cavalry '' is not a god given command. i even started to succesfuly charge elephants with light cav

3-4 light cav charge 1 elephant batalion , 2 of them successfully tie elephants down, then with my infantry i frontally charge elephant and i get combat modifier bonus , sure light cav gets disrupted or fragmented but the elephant is in trouble


Big picture during each battle is what is more important to me than sticking to any rules
