Proper use of light troops in skirmish role?

I believe the javelins (JLS) have good factors against cavalry in the impact phase, what happened in the subsequent melees?

I think though that this seems a rare set of luckily rolls by the light infantry. I find that once in a while light infantry may hold up battle units in the open, but usually not for long.
