SO..........
Would anyone mind if we started at midnight tomorrow, I'm in the Eastern Time Zone US, so 4AM for some British types, Burgot I believe is same time zone as I am, Jim an hour behind, Okie, two like Grudgebringer?
Since no one took the Caledonians I will take one of them to have a full army playing spread.
With this low number of players we should go through all of us FAST!!!!!! Tell you what, do like in Okie's tournament, throw up some challenges on here with a password for your chosen foe.
And if anyone does know of anyone to fill it up, toss them this ways!
Thanks!
Paul

Re: Early Invaders of Britain
Invaders Briefs:
By the 40s AD, the political situation within Britain was apparently in ferment. The Catuvellauni had displaced the Trinovantes as the most powerful kingdom in south-eastern Britain, taking over the former Trinovantian capital of Camulodunum (Colchester). The Catuvellauni were pressing their neighbours the Atrebates, ruled by the descendants of Julius Caesar's former ally Commius.
In 43 AD Claudius mounted an invasion force to re-instate Verica, an exiled king of the Atrebates. Aulus Plautius, a distinguished senator, was given overall charge of four legions, totalling about 20,000 men, plus about the same number of auxiliaries. The invaders sailed from east to west, probably from Boulogne to Kent. The legions were:
• Legio II Augusta
• Legio IX Hispana
• Legio XIV Gemina
• Legio XX Valeria Victrix
British resistance was led by Togodumnus and Caratacus, sons of the late king of the Catuvellauni, Cunobeline. A substantial British force met the Romans at a river crossing thought to be near Rochester on the River Medway. The battle raged for two days. Hosidius Geta was almost captured, but recovered and turned the battle so decisively that he was awarded the "Roman triumph.”
The British were pushed back to the Thames. They were pursued by the Romans across the river causing some Roman losses in the marshes of Essex. Whether the Romans made use of an existing bridge for this purpose or built a temporary one is uncertain. At least one division of auxiliary Batavian troops swam across the river as a separate force.
Togodumnus died shortly after the battle on the Thames. Plautius halted and sent word for Claudius to join him for the final push. Cassius Dio presents this as Plautius needing the emperor's assistance to defeat the resurgent British, who were determined to avenge Togodumnus. However, Claudius was no military man. Claudius's arch says he received the surrender of eleven kings without any loss, and Suetonius' The Twelve Caesars says that Claudius received the surrender of the Britons without battle or bloodshed. It is likely that the Catuvellauni were already as good as beaten, allowing the emperor to appear as conqueror on the final march on Camulodunum. Eleven tribes of South East Britain surrendered to Claudius and the Romans prepared to move further west and north. The Romans established their new capital at Camulodunum and Claudius returned to Rome to celebrate his victory. Caratacus escaped and would continue the resistance further west.
You have now entered the Isle of Britain in the year 43 AD.
In a perfect structured world I could see the tournament going nicely and precisely as follows:
Our two fearless Roman leaders will have two battles to fight each initially, one against each of the Cassivellanus led British armies. This simulates the landing and early battles in southeastern Britain against the Catuvellauni.
So theoretically Jim and Okie will thus challenge the Cassivellanus style British armies starting out, working their north until they bump into the other two regular British armies. If the Romans were defeated they could always embark again on their fleet and sail further north for easier pickings. If they win they’d just tromp over the defeated on their way to new conquests. These nasty Romans would then bump into Caledonian and Scotch-Irish invaders also intent on acquiring new territory.
Their German client state ally will in the beginning also have two battles to fight, one against each of the regular British armies. This simulates the allied landing further north of Kent which impacts Eastern Britain and surprises and alarms the tribes there. The Germans can then turn either left or right, go south or north, against the Caledonians and Scotch-Irish or the other two British players.
Further north other invaders have taken advantage of the rumors of war from the South of Britain, the Scotch-Irish and Caledonians will initially challenge one each of the northern Britons plus……they should bump into each other starting their feud going. Plus at the bloody end of this, wouldn't the Germans and Romans turn on each other as they usually did? Yep!
But no plan survives until the end, mass chaos will result as kingdoms fall, as leaders and armies flee, as new invaders appear while heroic defenders arise to defeat them……….
Anyways, we are as small bunch of bananas, please play and enjoy yourselves. Your main mission is to HAVE FUN!!!
Players will set up challenges and communicate the passwords either on this thread or through PM’s.
We may have folks jumping in to play, so if so, get them included with your challenges as they join. I see we have some challenges up already, so get ready to RUMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Note; I sort of set up the above structured timeline, let's get through this first round and see how it goes, if you'uns want structure in the future we can do that, if not we'll keep it simple!

Changed Grudgebringer from Ancient Britons to Early Germans,
He is more used to heavy foot, this should be a good match for his usual game play.
So Ian, if you jump on, it's all medium stuff for you!

Re: Early Invaders of Britain
The peace loving peoples of Caledonia have been compelled to take to the field...........
Silly Romans must've gotten blown off of course with one of their trading fleets, and set down in our neck of the woods! Of course, they are refusing our trade terms, time for them to GET OUT!
On the other side of the isle, some checkered britches wearing German folk have landed, supposedly to check out the real estate prices, they also have refused to take our best offer to them. Ridiculous, we're NOT giving land away!
Then to our south, some British types are acting up a bit, prancing around in their chariots, acting like silly twits!
So allendeuce, Grudgebringer, Burgot and mcfcivo, we are FORCED to act.........
Hope you don't regret it!!!!!!!!

Re: Early Invaders of Britain
Hi Paul can I be Caledonians please?Enakan wrote:Greetings!
While slamming away at everything else in life and in the FoG world, I wanted to dabble here with a small offering, a small tournament set in Britain from 0-100 AD, that era.
I would like to field twelve armies in pairs to simulate the tribes of Britain and their foes. The native armies will be two each of Ancient Britons, Ancient Britons (Cassivellanus), Early Scots/Irish and Caledonians. Then will come from the south two Roman (Principate) invaders, from the north and east Early Germanic (Not BC) raiders. So......
1. Ancient Britons - Jakdaw
2. Ancient Britons -
3. Ancient Britons (Cassivellanus variety) - Mcfcivo
4. Ancient Britons (Cassivellanus variety) - Mike M
5. Early Scots/Irish -
6. Early Scots/Irish - notjustdon
7. Caledonians - Enakan
8. Caledonians -
9. Romans (Principate) - Okie
10. Romans (Principate) - allendeuce
11. Early German - Burgot
12. Early German - Grudgebringer
Armies will be picked from the Legions Triumphant book using 400pt lists.
NO allies will be allowed for any army.
Seeing as the terrain of Britain was very dense in many parts, native armies will be able to pick terrain using the following choices only:
Very Crowded or Crowded
Invaders will try to pick their field of battle, what is best for their heavy troops. They are only allowed to use the following choices:
Crowded or Mixed
Looking for eleven players, I will pick up the last army that is not picked.
You will play all eleven opponents, best winning average wins the event. In the advent of a tie best percentage score will break the tie.
Please submit your results using both points earned and your percentage score. For example I lose versus say Burgot, he posts:
"Romans 22/34, Britons 44/42, 65/100%".
Let's have SOME FUN!!!!!!
Re: Early Invaders of Britain
Very good choice!
We are TEAM MATES!!! Long shots maybe, but......
Putting you up there right now. So just need (if anyone else is free) one more Scotch-Irish and one more regular flavored Briton.

***NEWSFLASH***
From the Caledonian Pony Express............can you hear the thundering hooves???
Dateline 43AD, ironshod sandal selling Latin types supposedly blown off course land in the Firth of Forth, in our times we call it F'F'Ffffffff.......
These notorious slippery tongued devils rousted one of our Belgae trader buds, saying he owed them for some shoddy merchandise he sold to them in the past, we had to kick them out of the trading post. For some reason their Red Crested Leader Buffinus Enormus Buttocus started yelling about "The Greater Glory of Romus and Remulus", and pulled out some little short sword and started waving it around.
Much spanking ensued to Buttocus from our womenfolk, more to come in this unbelievable story!!!
Nearby in the Loch of Loch-Slop, some furry semi-civilized Roman stooges landed from some of their paddle boats. These silly overgrown kids started screaming about the Glory of Romus and Remulus, we think they were fed some funny mushrooms by some Roman Trader types. As soon as these ALSO uninvited trespassers wake up from huddling under their rowboats and get a dose of reality, we'll show them the way back to the seashore. With a boot in the arse to keep them going!
Bad news from the tribal front though......the ancient feud between the Mac-Swines and Mac-Porkus's flared up again, as both tribes were heading down to the seashore to assist the Mac-Clamdiggers in loading up the comatose Stooges. Somebody's mother was mentioned yet again, somebody's grandfather's unsolved bushwhacking was again brought up, and some hot headed young'un's began throwing fists, frying pans, and whatever else came to hand.
We will trot out further updates as they roll in from the premier vacation spot of the Isles, CALEDONIA!!!!!!!!!
