Paul,
Your in. This is a singles competition. You are not getting it mixed up with the BHGS Doubles?

Still plenty of places if you want a different type of Wargaming mixing Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance armies against each other.

Using big toys is great and this calls for you to think hard as there is no guarantee that you will end up playing an army of the same size in one of your games.

So lets have more of you playing and proving how great a general you really are.

Does anyone have matrix grid worked out for the four different points...
I have the following combo's
1. 850
2. 780
3. 720
4. 650

and thats assuming i can get each list to exact values. I am assuming you can bring less than 3000 pts overall.. eg. 2997 ... As long as no two lists are <60 pts difference...

Thanks
Nigel

I have submitted my lists for checking to Tom and it is well under 3000 points.

You could start it the other way round - 640 + 700 + 760 + 820 = 2920

Paul,
Only one major problem your largest army is over the limit. The highest score is 850 points.

Just some questions about Flanks

If we are on a 8' table will the flanks be the full 12MU ie. 19" which would mean greater than 1/3 being flank sectors 96-38 or 1/3 being flank, total of 32" , 16" per flank or 10MU (40mm to an MU).

Also the rear would that be the full 6MU which is 9.6" meaning all armies would start with a threatened flank and you would have to deploy artillery at least 12" in to make sure they don't have a threatened flank due to their depth. You do have up to 15" to play with.

I was proposing to leave the flank sector at 12". We only need bigger tables to accommodate the larger armies.

The Team Worlds at Derby are using 12" flank sectors on 6' x 4' tables but are only using 700 point armies.

Yep inches for Terrain, Threatened Flanks and deployment and 40mm MU for movement, shooting, ZOCs, generals etc was what I was expecting

Just over 5 weeks away from the 25mm competition.

We currently have: -
Tom Elsworth
Stephen Stead
Isobel Stead
Nigel Emsen
Paul Kitcher
Ben Jones
Andrew Unwin

I am unable to play for health reason (I will lose).
It would great to have some more especially as players in the past have complained about not having enough "big toy" games.
If the FOG R Doubles are cancelled I hope some of those players will decide to join us.

Just a gentle word dear readers,
On our way back from Britcon, Isabel mentioned to me that she felt that the long running joke about "playing a girl; if I lose I got beaten by a girl and if I win I beat up on a child" is wearing a bit thin. She is playing because she wants to and is still learning; please respect that or she will vote with her feet.
Thanks

Agreed. At first, vs Nigel, it was funny.
Now we just fear the fact she is turning into a good player! Well, better than me anyway. I consider it an honour to play her.

Will and Pete have had to withdraw from the competition.

So if others of you want to play we can welcome you with open arms.

I'm thinking about it, and I'll have a word with David Hewkin tomorrow, which would at least keep you at even numbers - what armies are available to borrow, as neither of us has any 25mm figures appropriate for this?

Understood.. And we don't want to loose young players from the hobby

Just a quick question about when to choose which army list to use

1) Will we be writing down at the beginning of the competition which list we will use for which round,
2) or choose a list once we know the opponent as long as we use each list once.

As for Isabel's comments, we at Oxford have had for many years Lynda (who is not just a girl and any comment to that effect would usually mean having your army completely trounced, and a verbal right cross to the jaw) and Byron who as a teenager beat many an older and supposedly more experienced player (especially his father) . So we know not to take anything for granted and its not the sex or the age that counts but the strategy on the table and I personally look forward to giving her army a good honest fight.

Having looked back to the first time we used this format of variable army size I said - "You choose which army list to play AFTER terrain has been deployed. So you know who, what and where you are playing before deciding."

This should make you face the real challenge a general suffers from the FOG of war. You have to be able to grit it out with fewer troops or take full advantage of having more troops. The only fundamental rule is that you have to use each army size once.
