PBEM Not showing opponent's moves

Just finally got around to playing against my kid and... same issue, cannot see opponents moves. One is vanilla, one is Gold. Newest Windows updates, graphics drivers yadda yadda. Nothing in the logs. Have tried all possible settings combinations and resolutions I can think of. PC2 forums tell you to delete the cache, no such thing in PC1 apparently.

2 computers out of 4 show the same symptom. I might have to play this on a 7 year old laptop soon.

Annoying as hell, you never see where your opponent went, if he died etc. Worst case scenarios happen like 1 point units finding a naval transport route and landing in Denmark . Yeah, thought it suicided so he would get another slot...
