I haven't even seen a flank march, let alone a double. Every time I'm tempted I look at the odds and the urge goes away. Are they common in 15mm?
Most of the time they won't give you any benefit, but where the terrain suits it can be quite useful.

At Usk Simon and I flanked marched a couple of weak BGs to end up behind a fortification defended by poor MF.
We took that BG down and also his baggage which helped us on the way to a big victory.
(we did manage to make our arrival roll first attempt)

If you take only mounted BGs led by an FC you have a good chance of getting on the table early.

I think that in all the games of FoG I have played I have flank marched once (possibly twice but I don't think so). The flank marche did it's job even though one BG didn't turn up and the other one was smacked eventually. It did however divert a lot of enemy troops from the real action and let me win the game elsewhere.

I did flank march once, when I was using a bucketfull of knights facing a wall of spear. It came on and rode down three BG's of poor offensive Spearmen :)

Best flank march I have seen so far.

I would certainly expect flank marches to be less popular in FoG given the odds of bad things happening.

FoG seems designed to minimize the impact of crazy dice. Odd things are still going to happen, but nearly so often.

Actually, I think Flank Marches are probably more likely, once people have a feel for the tactics. There is nothing worse than having a full game where skirmishers continually evade and you can't catch the little so and so's. A good option is a flank march, it has a probability of 1/6 of arriving, but with two dice, that is much more certain than one. You can therefore get behind the skirmishers / strong battle line, which will have a decisive effect on the game.

If you plan your army to flank march (a good move) then you can significantly tailor your odds - i.e. use a field commander that means you arrive on a 1/4 chance.

Use superior troops who get to re-roll their "difficulty" dice role, or use drilled troops or skirmishers who are less likely to have difficulties.

They can be extremely potent if they arrive at the right time.

Here's the trick when Alex charges with his companions - when you have theose darned 'limp' lances on really cruddy dice rolls, and all of your rolls are 1-3, just state to your opponent that you 'didnt roll them dice, you dropped 'em!'.

Well, it works for my mate who is notorious for that one! I dunne, didnt anyone tell him that this is FUN not competitive?....Oh, it IS competitive? We i stand corrected then....
