In that case... Rankings are correctmarshalney2000 wrote:As expected silken words from an Englishmen while has his other hand in your pocket.
Surely you are not suggesting the official rankings do not provide an accurate picture of ability and achievements. I can only appear at a level in the rankings where the English overlords allow me to be.

You only appear at a level in the rankings based upon the results submitted from Scotland. As these are delivered with about the same frequency as the opening of an Aberdonian's wallet, the true picture of what your ranking should be remains unclear.

To be fair, there are not many Scottish competitions to report. I wish that there were more so that the rankings of myself and Hunter had a chance of being better.
I think next year, I might have a go at attending a raft of competitions South of the border to get a better idea of how I compare to the gallacticos. How is the Mexican FOGR scene?

Surely more than 1 a year though, presuming that one of your reprted 2 competitions is Britcon.?
Still, the how do you play this game again only works for so long.
cheers

My goodness there's a whole lot of John bashing goin on
I cannot possibly stand by and allow this to continue (without joining in). Just because a guy wins Britcon then comes second doesn't make him a top player - erm .... well .... maybe it does
FWIW I think John may either run away with it or bust. Largely because AFAIK he's never played the Later Spanish before
My top 3
Alasdair (how can a punter ignore such form)
Don (he is the umpire!)
Jim (gotta be one Scot on the podium and I can't bring myself to make it Sandbagger Munro)
Hunter

Well, to be clear - I'm not really John bashing, just sorta saying your fooling no-one with the look at us poorly ranked players who can't hope to compete against you guys.
Don't get me wrong- it makes for good banter and my attempts to stay under the radar seem to have floundered as well.
FWIW - I think the Later Spanish is a good list and it will be interesting to see what John's done with it. I think I fought Ben's last week and we battered each other.
counting down to 2 weekends of mayhem.
cheers
Jim

Re: Tadaa! Britcon 2014 R&R plus Nemesis Challenge Matches
Actually my two competitions last year were Britcon and Derby.
As for previous performances at Britcon being first then second clearly my star has waned and I am on a downward spiral.
I believe Hunter will do well despite his pathetic pleading re his ranking. He has practiced with his army until it is a well oiled machine of heavy mounted and supporting artillery masses.
I have on the other hand chopped and changed my army and now find my traditional infantry fare being replaced by unfamiliar albeit superior mounted.

I can now see the point our non Scottish colleagues are making re rankings. From what Can gather Hunter and I are geniuses who are vastly under ranked because we are unable to play many games whilst above us are a lot of English numpties who are not very good but play of lot of losing games to increase their ranking.
Well Hunter should be no bother at all for us next weekend. Do you think we need bother bringing the full 800 point army?
John
P.S. I look forward to playing Mr Gibson and his early turnips - oops sorry Swedes.

of course this "minority" simplex of comps north of the border, could all become null and void with result of the referendum
Will Scottish BHGS members be status be moved from "full members" to "affiliated to"?
Good there are plenty of tables to hide under... oh they will know to look only under the bottom score ones
Argh.. but they will be keeping me company.. so cant hide there either

Re: Tadaa! Britcon 2014 R&R plus Nemesis Challenge Matches
I don't think anyone would disagree with a sober assessment being that all the competitors are in with a shout over the weekend.
There are a few who have either more flair, more experience, more competitive instinct, more luck or any combo of these and they are the ones most likely to take to the podium at the end. You know who you are (and so do the rest of us)
At Britcon last year I got a doing from Mathew that I didn't think I deserved. Delivered a whitewash to Richard that was really flukey and I definitely didn't deserve. Edged Don in a ding dong he could easily have won. Got slam dunked by Alasdair (not unexpected). Cant remember the other games off hand.
So for us "not top players" luck and pairings plays a huge part.
This makes BC14 really interesting from my POV because there is a great variety of armies in play - from masses of high tech Savoys, through lethal LOA, on to great mounted armies from WOTR, into masses of warriors in Sudanese and japanese and onto the mounted munching Tuaregs.
It's all shaping up to a real corker of a weekend and I am really looking forward to the trip down with my homies, catching up with old friends and playing a few friendly - but competitive - games. Didn't mention the curry at EastzEast but that's definitely in there too.
May the draw be kind and your dice roll high middle rankers
Hunter

I doubt you will see much of John at the bottom tables Nigel unless it is to bring me news of his latest victorynigelemsen wrote:of course this "minority" simplex of comps north of the border, could all become null and void with result of the referendum

I don't know about that. My first game is against Simon who bought my Britcon winning West Sudanese and is playing them against me. My Spanish superior mounted are good but do not fancy bloody camels and massed bows. He is also likely to vastly outnumber me in battle groups.
I could well be down at the bottom end after that first game.

Well done Mr Masefield, a fine choice sir. I found the Swiss guaranteed good games, win or lose.
Re: Tadaa! Britcon 2014 R&R plus Nemesis Challenge Matches
Nigel,
I would expect Alasdair has maxed out on Dragoons (2 bases per BG) and commanded shot. He will pick on one end of your line and shot it away with muskets and guns then push his average horse through the gap and turn you over.
