Kalka River

Mongols (Jonathan4290) 8/50 (18%)
Russians (Iandavidsmith) 32/46 (106%)

Jonathan4290 10.6pts
Iandavidsmith 1.8pts

This one's really tough for the Russians, not entirely sure how to go about winning as the Russians. Hopefully I can play pantherboy as the Mongols one day and find out :P

jonathan there's something wrong with the score, can you recheck?

the russians have a crisis on their hand at the start of the battle. if they misplay, like in this case it looks like, they will get clobbered, although the score is surprisingly lopsided even so. but if they get away relatively unscathed, they're in a better shape to finish the game. i'm playing russians at kalka in round 2 and like my chances. actually so are you: time for some kalka homework for you.

Timurids (fogman) 63/65 (97%)
Ottomans (iandavidsmith) 78/75 (104%)

fogman 10.4
iandavidsmith 9.7

all games in round 1 are now completed. round 2 challenges must be put up by this sunday and picked up within 3 days.
except for a couple of games it was tight and i'm happy with the balance of the scenarios as both sides are shown to be capable of winning.

Sorry Fogman I just reissued our scenario without realising that I'm meant to play as the crusaders in Nicopolis again. Query though why do we have to play as the same side in the same scenario? It would be rather easy to reconfigure the matchups to ensure no repeat of the same side. I don't particularly look forward to repeating Nicopolis as the crusader again. I'd much rather play as the mongols in Kalka or be the ottomans in Nicopolis :)

Steve
there was a series of constraints built into the timetabling, one of which was playing the same side against a different player. why? variety purpose, as counter intuitive as it may sound. the goal was if i was to run the exact set up again with 5 scenarios and 5 players, the matchups would be completely different and having more constraints would help in that. just imagine playing in a standard tournament where you choose your army and play with that same army 8 times and one of those times you end up with the same or similar map and against an army that is not very different from another army you've played previously. keep in mind also this is the first time this kind of format has been attempted so there is some experimenting involved. but you're right you should not be looking forward to playing crusaders in nicopolis: you're playing against me!

i've been building different timetables with different numbers of scenarios and players and no it wouldn't be a problem to make players avoid playing the same side in particular scenarios in round 2. but rest assured that this particular constraint has been removed from future planning, as is the case already with lords of the steppe, 2nd edition, which boasts a balanced set of matchups.

EDIT: IMPORTANT:

I have decided to change the matchups for round 2 to not have players play the same side in the same scenario. there are only 2 games underway in round 2 involving batesmotel vs fogman and batesmotel vs iandavidsmith. the first game is only in turn 2 so can be safely discarded. this is the only disruption. i have kept the second game between batesmotel and iandavidsmith in their slot in the new schedule. because round 1 and round 2 weren't done together, the permutations, or maybe my declining combinatorics skills, still require one player to play the same side, and i chose myself and will repeat as crusaders in nicopolis. new chart is up in first post. time frame stay the same as before.
