Sim Ant was my favorite game when I was little. Just make sure your dudes know where the food is by getting 5 to follow you and releasing them at the food. You create a scent path to the food this way. At the same time build stone walls to block the enemy ants away. When they are good and hungry, attack!

When playing in the long game mode, make sure to produce a lot of breeders once you have a steady supply of food. If you start colonization early, you get a big advantage.

Did you know there is a cheat where u can control the spider? Me and my friend unleashed it onto the enemy base in "hunt mode" and totally killed tons of them :)

Yeah... Its not really a cheat, but Ive done that too. So much more satisfying to just swarm it under with 70 ants, though. DIE SPIDER DIE.

OK the basics.

A Republican Roman army was a citizen army called up as needed. Not paid much, if you got rich it was from the loot and slaves you captured.

Hastati were the younger men, armed with heavy throwing spear (pilum), sword and shield.

Princepes were more middle aged. Initially equipped with thrusting spears (as indeed the entire early armies were), they also were equipped with the pilum.

Triarii, oldest most experienced troops. Last to keep the thrusting spears and used as a battlefield reserve.

Eventually the three age groups were done away with, the soldiers became professionals and with a full time army an empire was created.
