Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC
Times were tough in Alexandria so I came north to visit distant relatives. Perhaps I'll set up in a dingy little place in the south called Roma.

you have to select more hastatii than principes.deeter wrote:I am unlcear what this Roman restriction means:

roman infantry at that time was divided into 3 classes based on property qualifications (and age). property qualifications were important because legionnaires had to provide their own equipment. it wasn't until Marius who abolished the property qualifications that the state began to equip the legions and a truly professional army began to take shape. the triarii were the oldest (usually also the most propertied), then came the principes, then the hastatii. the game doesn't force you to select hastatii (who couldn't afford armour), which leads to fully armoured roman armies, which is not realistic.

Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC
Thanks. I'm aware of all that, but shouldn't there be equal numbers of hastati and principis? Making the army your way makes it nearly impossible to spend all 500 points.

I don't mind if the numbers are equal. I just wanted to decrease the proportion of armour in roman armies.it seem more logical there would be more hastatii since they were the first line.deeter wrote:Thanks. The troops termed has tati and principles inFoG PC' list are one category in the FoG TT list where they're are 'has tati and principles'. Keith just chose to use a different name for each line in the FoG PC MRR list.

Re: LORDS OF ITALY circa 280 BC
Guys:
I got a call this morning from my principal. The teacher who was supposed to go up north with her class on Monday can't and they are most likely sending me along with her class (while she stays here with mine). I go up with my class (this is to an Outdoor Ed. Centre for a week) the following week. They are calling me back later today to confirm. The Gauls may have to skulk back to the north and join you all another time. Will let you know when I do! Apologies if I do have to bow out!
